Try bridging the sitzbones cutouts with a folded dishtowel or face cloth. I like the EndureRow personally but even the radiused edge of the donuts makes an impression on soft tissue after an hour or so. There is also inuration (toughening up) by repeated exposure--you finally get used to having the discomfort and soon thereafter you don't have it (as soon). My butt used to get sore at about 40'. Now the discomfort becomes noticable around 85' continuous effort.

Here's a link to my post about a seat pad I made. Seems to work really well. Used to start getting a bit of discomfort after a 10k. Last night I did my first 60' with no problem.

Re: sore a$$
Been noticing that my ass was a little sore even using my skwoosh, with which I was uptil now quite happy with.
After checking my seatpad I noticed there was absolutely no gel left... (???)
the padding bit just wasn't. not sure what happened here - i do put it outside sometimes (albeit in the shade) to dry off if the session was hard - maybe the bags of silicon burst?
had tzo check the date i bought it from amazon - exactly 1 year to date...
looks like an alternative is required - until then I have a roll of bubble wrapand a towel...

Re: sore a$$
have to say, despite having quite a bony ar$e, I am finding it's getting easier on the erg since I started 2-3 months ago. I still use a small folded towel but at one stage I was using two and on one occasion I forgot towel(s) and just used a folded t-shirt for 5K PB attempt and I was fine.

Re: sore a$$
Well, I've given it a shot but the EndureRow seat just didn't work much better than the stock seat for me. So, I'm going to return it for a refund and am back to using a form stuffed pillow to cushion my behind while rowing.
Going to have to start a new search for a solution. Oh well . . .

Re: sore a$$
The ischial tubrosities at the tip of the hip bones are where I (and I assume others) experience the discomfort and they are wider than the holes provided in the EndureRow seat and continued to contact the seat which created pressure/discomfort over time. So, I think I need a much thicker pad with wider holes in order to better accommodate these bony points.
Like the post above, I've seen other posts online where people are crafting their own cushion to conform better to their specific anatomy.
What I decided to do in the interim is/was to buy 4 foam stick-on cushions from Concept at just $3.50 a piece and I'm going to layer them -- one by one -- to achieve the same result and to use only as many layers as necessary in order to achieve comfort. Since the are so cheap, I can remove and/or enlarge the precut holes as necessary to customize them to my needs. Four layers should be enough but I can easily/cheaply buy more if need be.
I'll report the results as soon as I get the cushions from Concept. Hopefully it'll work.

Re: sore a$$
I rowed on the pad above before I cut the holes - after 10k my butt left two indents so I knew exactly where to cut. I made the holes smaller than the indents, to allow for the fact that the foam is soft and will squish around the edges anyway and effectively make the holes 'bigger' when in use.
Seems to be working well for me a couple of weeks on. Very comfy for 10k rows
Also not getting any soreness at the back where there was some chaffing before.
One thing to be aware of is if you keep adding pads the seat height will effectively increase - and you might need to change the height of the flexfoot to match - the only problem being the strap doesn't adjust with the flexfoot so it can feel odd.

Re: sore a$$
Used a cut out iso mat (probably the Weiss best yoga mat, but she is on a business trip in Italy and needs must)
Was great for the first 15k then I could my bones hitting the seat and rolling back and fourth (back movement)...
Matt was too thin, folded towel until the new swoosh comes...
They are thin and do the job..

Re: sore a$$
Ok, here's where I ended up in this sore a$$ dilemma.
1) I ordered 4 (but only used 3) of the seat pads from Concept 2 and fabricated my own "custom" seat by taping the 3 of them together, popping out the precut holes and using a Dremel tool to contour the seat (as best I could estimate) to my behind. If anyone's interested to see what it looks like, I can post a pic but haven't taken any yet. When I used it alone w/a towel on top, it feels ok at 2k meters but still causes discomfort at 5k meters. Added a couple of layers of large bubble wrap to see if it would be better. Actually 1 layer was better than 2 in helping to add comfort at 2k meters but still didn't help at 5k meters.
2) At 5k meters, the only thing I can stand is to use a 14" square filled pillow w/or w/o the custom seat I crafted. I can row the full (for me) 25-27 minutes w/o any significant soreness. The custom seat w/or w/o the bubble wrap does no good at that distance. By 15-20 minutes I'm squirming and can't wait to stop.
3) So, it seems I just have a bony butt that just can't handle more than 10-12 mins in the saddle unless I use a pillow, which isn't ideal (it sits high and doesn't plant my behind firmly in the seat). So, my decision is to stop rowing 5k meters and to limit my rowing to 2k meters or less. Was just doing 5k meters because it would provide me w/about a 30 min uninterrupted workout. I can just do 2 or 3 2k meter intervals instead which I can manage w/my new custom seat (or even the stock seat). I can row faster w/o intensity at 2k meters and I can also give myself some rest between sets, which would not be possible at 5k meters.
Just did a 10k meter workout doing 5 2k meter intervals w/rest in between and it was fine; much better than if I tried to do 2 5k meter intervals instead.

Re: sore a$$
Just wanted to add here that after ~4months on the erg generally logging 20-40kms/week so far and sessions usually of 10K length (have also done several hour pieces and a HM)...my a$$ seems to have adapted somewhat. I still use a folded towel on the seat but things have improved...

Re: sore a$$
Like getting back on a bicycle after a long time off. Get saddle sore for a bit until your arse gets used to it again.
Cushion pad i bought for 5 quid off ebay has never let me down... never had any discomfort at all ever since i very first started rowing.
Me not having a boney arse probably helps alot as well!!!!!!!

Re: sore a$$
Anyone recommend a good pair of rowing shorts I could buy in the UK. I have had a sore a$$ on two occasions both when I have forgotten my usual shorts (a pair of longish adidas running shorts). On one occasion I used my cycling shorts which I had in my gym bag but they were terrible and on the other used my swim shorts to equally painful effect.
I could do with a pair of good rowing shorts as I erg most days.
Thanks
Gordon
