Also 100/300 1 min. This includes an extra ranking distance.lindsayh wrote:I agree Joe - that is how they expressed their intention.100/200/300/400 metres separately performed at any time during the month from standing starts. The pace splits for the four rows should be added and entered on the CTC site. There is a calculator available http://michaellaszlo.com/ctc-helper-august-2016/ where the raw times may be used to produce the valid entry.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
Hi all,
Just to clarify/confirm. Our challenge will be 4 individual sprints of 100m, 200m, 300m and 400m. These can be performed at any time during the month. There is no recovery or interval required. The per 500m score of each item will be used so the total distance registered will be 2k. This was our olive branch to those that consider this the golden distance
If any rowers out there want to come and join us, please do. Due to injury we are currently at risk of failing to put out a boat on our own challenge ! We hope you enjoy the variance.
Nick

Distance rowed: 1k
Distance registered: 2k
2x100, 2x200, 2x300, 2x400 wouldn't require a "variance." But probably too much to row in one month.

Don't say I didn't warn you all, but this CTC is in danger of becoming a complete farce if the idea of using an external calculator to compute scores is carried forward. Reading through the thread it seems like it's not even fully understood on here, and so I think the masses will massively struggle with this. It doesn't even fit into the criteria of fitting into a lunch break if you have to row four separate rows on four different occasions. Nearly everyone I've spoken to about this thinks exactly the same. Don't get me wrong, it's a fab idea, but can just see there being such a high level of inaccurate scores registered it simply won't be worth the trouble.

100 av 1.20
200 av 1.25
300 av 1.35
400 av 1.40
Gives 4min plus 120 seconds. So 4 plus 2 = 6.00 min for the ctc 2k.
Real distance is the 1k, real average is also completely diffent. But its simple. Ad the 4 500m splits up and you have your result. If thats to difficult ....

Can easily be done in 10 min Casey, will give a crap result, but so be it. Its not the first time a bit of counting is needed.CaseyClarke wrote:Don't say I didn't warn you all, but this CTC is in danger of becoming a complete farce if the idea of using an external calculator to compute scores is carried forward. I very much dislike the fact you think rowers can,t do a bit of math.... Common... There are much more complicated things in life.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
Their point wasn't to do it in 10 minutes, though, was it?
It was to allow sufficient time between efforts to ensure you can give a max effort to all four.
And yes, I also dislike this fact, but I think it's unfortunately true for many people. I can probably only see maybe 70% of entered results being correct.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
The point is you can do it anyway you want. If you want a good result yes you need 4 different rows, but if you just want to put in a time taking a few rest rest is also an option. 100 and 200 can proberly be done in one session. So for a max result you need 3 rows. Lots of people do a few goes per ctc, so not much different this time.CaseyClarke wrote:Their point wasn't to do it in 10 minutes, though, was it?

I Find it a refreshing choise.
In this day and age where stupidity is gaining all over, something slightly less simple is refreshing. Its not like its forbidden to ask for help if needed is it?

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
I actually like more complex challenges and have devised plenty in the past, but when it comes to using an external calculator I think it's a step too far for many. I guess we'll see what happens when the entries start rolling in!

I like this challenge, particularly the aspect of giving the sprints equal weight.CaseyClarke wrote:I actually like more complex challenges and have devised plenty in the past, but when it comes to using an external calculator I think it's a step too far for many. The calculation is very simple provided that a worked example is shown on the CTC site. It's certainly easier than totting up the times and managing the intervals when rowing a Rugby Test using the PM2. I can't remember that producing many bogus entries.

Joe

I take it that means standing starts for each rep?s-execute wrote:Just to clarify/confirm. Our challenge will be 4 individual sprints of 100m, 200m, 300m and 400m. These can be performed at any time during the month.

The biggest problem is proberly that the pure non sprinters will hate it.CaseyClarke wrote:I actually like more complex challenges and have devised plenty in the past, but when it comes to using an external calculator I think it's a step too far for many. Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
While the distance rowed is 1km, the time registered is the equivalent of the 2km of your dreams. That is, four pace splits taken from the sprints and added as if you could have gone on to row 500 metres at the same speed.Grobi wrote:You surely mean 1k?s-execute wrote: The per 500m score of each item will be used so the total distance registered will be 2k.

Should call this one the Fantasy Matters Challenge. Henry, I can do addition, in this case adding four paces that sum to bullsh7t! ++++ Pathetic example of factitious special pleading. While the distance rowed is 1km, the time registered is the equivalent of the 2km of your dreams. That is, four pace splits taken from the sprints and added as if you could have gone on to row 500 metres at the same speed.
