Image Pick out your camping spot and get ready for Aug 12 and the Perseids Meteor Shower...

Yep, it's a month out, but planning these things takes time! This year's Perseids has even more extraordinary viewing to offer as it is what is termed an outburst year - there will be double the usual amount of meteors per hour! The suggestion for camping out to watch these (and camping might just be in your own backyard) comes from the fact that we'll have a pretty bright moon on 12 August - you might want to GET AWAY from the suburbs and the cities to improve your chances at counting up a bunch!

Meanwhile, Tombeur's year to date total is one of our biggest ever palindromes...643,346 m....might be unintentional planetary alignment, yet cool no matter how it happened! And, in another quadrant of our Erging Universe, a mere 20K separates Steve W from the million meter milestone marker!

MILESTONES...Bragging RIghts...Celebrations:

1.55 MM Ed
300 K Danno
250 K Jonathan

Moon Express is a California-based company that has called the Moon the eighth continent, just waiting for pillaging...I mean exploration ...of its vast resources. Moon Express has a robotic lunar lander that is in test mode for a planned return to the moon in 2017. http://www.moonexpress.com/ Just think of all those scifi novels and movies where space industries generally include mining....and piracy!

Now that Steve W has topped off his meter piggy bank with the final million meter batch, you might think there's less suspense...but NO! There are milestones just waiting to be discovered around every teammate. In fact, Ed's full mooned us again and there's a slew of other meter milestones!

Image Today is National Ice Cream Day here in the US...I kid you not. So celebrate the day and any milestones with a visit to your favorite ice cream place! And you can check out what your choice of ice cream flavors reveals about your personality...I'm not telling...

Shaun, the weary hiker, has returned from visiting his many, MANY cousins on the Emerald Isle. He had a grand time. Lots of good craic and quite a bit of Guinness, too!! Turns out that "training" with long hikes on flat trails doesn't translate too well to hills. Who knew? But it all worked out in the end.

K2, BG, DanWho & Thor;
Thanks for the kind words! If all goes well, planning to add more on either Friday or Saturday after the race. Leave tomorrow AM & won't see a computer until getting back. Weather forecast is absolutely brutal, air temps mid-nineties to low 100's all days, heat indexes well above that :shock: . Looking for every option to keep from getting absolutely cooked and cross the finish line. BG, I'd happily trade this for a touch of Boston weather...
