Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
I used to rely on the ISS forum as being a safe place to keep information, so I have no clues either.
Are the Sprint Group on Faceborg?

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
Still no word on the ISS forum getting back up and running?! Nice of them to tell us in advance they were going to cut the forum.
The Sprint Group consist of just a mere handful of rowers. Looking at the C2CTC page they are:
GOAT9.79 (H)
Alex d'Arcy (H)
87 years old but not cold (H)
Linford Molloy (L)
Donna T (F)
Can't find much on Facebook. We can ask in the group if nobody pipes up after a week or two more.

They have been hopeless for years of course Casey - no idea about or interest in their customers/service. Won't even respond to email contact to give any information now.CaseyClarke wrote:Still no word on the ISS forum getting back up and running?! I just sent this:
Fingers crossedHi there again.
No response to my last email which is a bit of a worry. I was a regular user of the Forum along with a good group of others - I can assure you it was a valued service especially for those trying to avoid Facebook pages. It is now 3 weeks without any information about your plans to either restore it or bury it. There is a lot of personal information locked in the blogs for many people that is currently inaccessible and there is no way of providing communication with some about CTC and the like. It is really unfair for you to just shut it down without warning and then just leave it in limbo with no explanation. (and then to just ignore emails with questions about it)
Can you just let us know what is happening please?

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
Alack, alas! The long-suffering UK forum seems to have breathed its last. Whither now? I refuse to go on Facebook, that stinking pile of garish ads and garbage posts. As a forum it's almost completely useless. It doesn't have sections, threads, blogs, any of that. Why do people try to use Facebook as a forum when it's made for person-to-person communication and, lately, for media broadcasts? Facebook makes it easy to share stuff and to react instantaneously. What you can't do easily is to engage in a long discussion or find anything later. Facebook is about the here and now. It's made for ephemeral, unstructured communication. It's not good at all for organizing group discussion around a shared interest.
Why do people use Facebook at all? What does anyone get out of it? As far as I can tell, Facebook is a collection of fourth-rate versions of other tools. It's a watered-down Myspace bundled with a poor man's Flickr, built over a never-ending stream of worthless click bait. It's a sewer. I loathe Facebook. I suspect that most other people do, too. They're only using it because they think everyone else is on Facebook and they don't want to get left out. But isn't it obvious that every minute spent on Facebook is unproductive and unrewarding in any way that matters? Wouldn't your life improve if you were to delete your Facebook account?
In other news, Andy Burrows completed the CTC with an average power of 9.2 watts. Either that, or he misread the challenge instructions. Maybe he was distracted by Facebook.

Sound indictment of Facegook, Stupefaction. Welcome home!

I have removed my Facebook account approximately 2 years ago.
Over a year ago, I moved my blog from ISS to Wordpress.com (and subsequently to my own blog domain blog.rowsandall.com) and never looked back. I would suggest that as a solution to the bloggers. For the Forum, why not use this forum as we are currently doing.

A very big minus here is not having a blog option. Putting personal training in a thread is horrible and does not work. You want it to be easy to find and compact.sander wrote:I have removed my Facebook account approximately 2 years ago.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
You'll need to write an email to rowing@concept2.com if you want to petition to get the blogs stuff on here.
The UK Forum folks are still telling me it's a minor glitch. It's a minor glitch from three weeks ago now, so I can't see any point in moving back even if their forum does come back up. It's also broken the "interactive program" generator, but they don't seem to care about that either.

It would be good if C2 here did a Blog thread - I assume someone will already have picked up the comments.Citroen wrote:You'll need to write an email to rowing@concept2.com if you want to petition to get the blogs stuff on here.

I have still yet to get any response from the email above from ISS - bizarre.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
I'm on wordpress, like Sander. It's free, way faster than the ISS blog tool ever was, you don't need photobucket or anything for pictures, and it's mobile friendly. You can also subscribe to other blogs very easily. We could recreate the ISS blog world in a day, if people gave it a try.hjs wrote:A very big minus here is not having a blog option. Posting to the July challenge? I did the rowing, but how do I post to the challenge?
Re: Cross Team Challenge - the alternative home
Still no joy on the return of the ISS forum. I'll give it another week or so and then spend a resentful hour working out the October challengers from the primary data on the CTC site.
I've had no contact from any Sprint Group member on facebook.
Regards,
Joe

I remember that it was 500, 400, 300, 200, 100 metres but can't recall the rest interval. The innovative element was to give equal weight to each sprint by averaging the splits achieved in the five efforts.
Let's hope the ISS forum is restored soon. I've been pleasantly surprised by the current volume of posting on this site. It seemed close to death two years ago but has received a new lease of life.

Joe
