These errors point to a flawed system,  not improprieties. Rankings, (except race proven), total meters rowed, etc. should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, 99.9% of us are not erging to set world records, but to maintain some semblance of fitness.  Goals for rankings should be set towards race proven times, and as far as I'm concerned all others are bogus. <!--QuoteBegin-kinley+Jan 23 2006, 11:49 AM--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(kinley @ Jan 23 2006, 11:49 AM)</b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteBegin--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE</b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Graham wrote: <br /><br />"I train to race so my mile and 2k PB's are really important to me, the others are training pieces."<br /><br />Precisely!<br /><br />The simple answer to any argument over ranking 2K pieces is simple enough: <br />ONLY race times accepted.<br /><br />In athletics, athletes' training performances are not ranked only race times.<br /><br />If Indoor Rowing is to be taken seriously as a sport on a par with others such as athletics, rowing, swimming etc. then there is no place whatsoever for non-race times (over 2K) to be ranked.<br /><br />Alan.<br /> </td></tr></table><br /><br /><br />Enough with the 2k monomania!<br /><br />I've said before, and I'll say again --- this thread is nothing if not repetitious --- not everyone prioritizes 2000m. Athletics/track and swimming offer the athlete a choice of distances at which to compete. Indoor rowing does not. <br /><br />Would it not be more constructive to work toward uniformity of verification at ALL distances? Ideally, this verification would include races of varying length. But under no circumstances should C2 retrench from the current spectrum of ranking distances.<br /><br />NB I don't foresee that an activity dependent on computer programming for results will ever be taken "seriously as a sport ...." <br /> </td></tr></table> <br /> </td></tr></table><br /><br />Inconsistancies between Nonathon and Ranked times can be explained by the fact that you can rank distances that are part of other distances on the nonathlon but not on the C2 rankings. For instance, If you have a particularly fast 1000 as part of a 2000m test you can rank both on the nonathlon but only the 2000 on the C2 rankings.

I've received information on Dwayne's 2k row from this weekend - and here is what i know.<br /><br />1. the verification code that the PM3 generated for Dwayne's row shows that his 2k piece was done in 5:46.2 as a FIXED DISTANCE. The verification code captures serveral factors about a row - including the interval vs. fixed distance. In this case the 2k was indeed a fixed distance.<br /><br />2. Dwayne emailed to tell me that the piece was done at the Tempe rowing club on a Model D.<br /><br />The verification code is a strongly encrypted bit of information - very difficult to reproduce. The system also prevents using any duplicate verification codes - so they can't be 'recyled' in any way.<br /><br />i've marked dwayne's row as IND_V and emailed him a congratulatory email.<br /><br />I'm now going to close this very long thread in order to prevent the entire world wide web from shutting down from post overload :-)<br /><br />-bill patton
