I've got flying monkeys and I'm not afraid to use them.

Ah, Thor, so fun to chase the meters. You just happen to be in the way. (wink). K2, thanks for the mention. My mission? Just building that aerobic base, and that takes time and distance. Trying to be healthy and lose a few VERY stubborn pounds.

Happy Canada Day!

Post by Thor MW » July 1st, 2016, 10:06 am

Well the maple leaf flies high on this day of July 1. It is a bit cool and rainy. The rain will let up though and I think the fireworks will be great for those who are interested in staying out that late. I will be with family and friends for a BBQ of burger and dogs. No, not those kinds of dogs.
So get Canadian. Put away your arms, apologise for everything especially when it’s not your fault and be nice. Oh, and don’t forget to say “eh” now and then too.
Have fun ... Eh!

Happy Canada Day !! And now, in true Canadian tradition, I will apologise in advance for changing the subject.
How do frigatebirds sleep?

This comment is not completely a non-sequitur in this group, that sees many people accomplishing things, making others wonder, how do they do it.
That thought popped into my mind more than once as I was reading about these frigatebirds.

By the way, notice that I did spell "apologise" with an 's', rather than a 'z'. Happy Canada Day !!

No need to "apologize" -- we're not quite that British! hahaha. But good on you for the "s".
Frigatebirds? Amazing. I think some of the Lunies on this team are related. Amazing birds, amazing rowers.

I agree about the "s". However it isn't "z" it's zed. Sometimes Canada does make me shake my head. How silly does that sound? I'm going to crash and grab some zeds? Whatever. Here's another one. To get paid in the US is a check. In Canada it's a cheque. I assume this could be the French connection.
Just read this today and thought it was pretty good.
Only dead fish go with the flow.
And I really love this one I think we can all take something away from it,
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
Both are very good reminders for me. I hope others get something from it too.
Have a good day all.

One of the benefits of oh dark thirty outings with the pups is that I do get to see some good parts of the day...like the hummingbird on the feeder. The bird store people sell a single flowerlet (is that the right term?) with a small reservoir to put the sugar water into. The idea is that these hummers will be so used to your presence, and being fed, that they will flit over to where you are holding the single reservoir and get some sustenance up close. I'm going to give it a try! We have a couple varieties of hummers up here - the one above is simply called a greenie -maybe a Rufous?- and the others are ruby-throated (and the ruby ones are mean to the greenies). Now these can't stay aloft like the frigate birds....but they are incredibly fast...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLUxl-Dj8mc Hummers of Colorado ....although we do have plenty of the Hummer vehicles, especially during hunting season...
