Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro
Just get online and start rowing.domi26 wrote:Hi,
Any news?
I have never rowed online, I don't want to finish my first experience with a DNF...
And I'm a bit afraid of going back to version V20 (I don't want a firmware crash during downgrade)...
Dominique
Do a 100m test piece, sooner or later we all get DNF's for any number of reasons. You only need to loose you internet connection for a few seconds or the server dumps you during the row and your going to get a DNF.
The DNF is not the problem, its the people that sign up and are as DNS or "Did not Start".
You may or may not have problems, it can be down to your mix of hardware, some people are not having issues to the only way to tell is test it.

I have just made a 100m test, and I had exactly the same...
Also, it's still indicated "rowing" in live feed.

Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro
Is there a risk to install a previous version of firmware (software crash)?
Can I use the same procedure as a firmware update like this one (cable version):
"http://www.concept2.com/service/monitors/pm5/firmware":
"
Updating Firmware with a USB Cable
This method requires an “A to B” USB cable (a printer cable).
On your computer, connect to the internet.
Shut down any PM applications you have running (RowPro, for example).
Launch the Concept2 Utility.
Connect your PM5 to your computer with the USB cable.
The Concept2 Utility will prompt you if a newer firmware version is available. Click Install Now to run the update. (If not prompted, click button on right with monitor encircled by arrows and follow the prompts to run the update.)
"
I have received the firmware V20 by email, I just have to use Concept2 Utility, and select the file in my computer to be uploaded?

I'm back to V20, everything is fine now.
I could finish normally a 100m test online.

Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro
I presume you still need to drag the V20 file that you put on the desktop over the top of the update utility and then it works ?
This was a very weird way of doing things I thought, not exactly what you call intuitive.
Would be better if you had the choice of all the legacy versions of the firmware or at the very least the previous version as a selection from within the utility to choose from if you wanted to roll back. In this instance it would have been very useful.

It's what I did... very weird, that's true...Carl Watts wrote:I presume you still need to drag the V20 file that you put on the desktop over the top of the update utility and then it works ?

I didn't know we could use a compressed file directly... (.7z file), first I extracted the file, and it didn't work, after that, I dragged and dropped the compressed file, and it worked... thanks to Concept2 tech support.

Is the v20 available on the website?
Nope I just checked.
Will request it from C2

Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro
no reply from c2 - did get a tweet back from digital rowing tho -
new update 5.x should be out "soon" and has a bugfix.
personally - i'm all good. suprised digital rowing hasn't expedited this.
surely less people being abel to row online is bad for business....
then there is the update. I was lucky enough to buy a rowpro 5 licence - so i should be covered for the update - what about others ?

Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro
There will not be a significant number of PM5 users that are rowing online as yet, only a couple of people on this forum are having trouble for starters.
I think getting V5 out on the PC is a priority, I was told we would have it last Christmas, but perhaps that was the preview version but it still arrived late.
I will not be shifting from V4.3 in a hurry, it works really well and has done now for a while with no issues at all using a PM4.
V5.0 looks nice but it needs to be stable, cannot afford to have problems when you row just about every day.
You would be shocked as to how few people row online as compared to the total number of licenced users. Go into "Send a message" and see how many people are on the mailing list. You see the same old 20 to 30 people rowing online maybe once or twice a week. I can count those that row online 5 or 6 days a week on my hands.

Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro
I have rowed online with people only one time, and alone two times.
The problem is to find people rowing with about the same pace, otherwise it's not funny...
When I rowed online, I did a pace of around 2:15 for 30', all the other where at around 2:00, it's not funny at all... I was just 'lucky' that one guy had a problem in the middle, and I could pass him... then we raced together untill the end... that was funny.
So, when you look at the scheduled rowings, it should be nice to see the average pace of everybody, instead of being obliged to go to Google, and search "logbook" with the name of all the guys, and sometimes you find their average pace...
Also, I'm at GMT+2, another problem to find people online...
