Hello to one and all.I just received a Model B and retro fitted the erg with a pm3.

It seems I am unable to set my erg to an acceptable drag factor of 140.The cog setting doesn't really help that much.I guess i'll just have to row as it is.It shows 210 on the panel.

Is there anyone out there who is the same BOAT(that wasn't met to be funny, but I like it anyways)?

Another question,I find it takes a bit more effort to get close to my numbers that I am accustomed to on a Model C.Is it me or the machine? Either way,I really like the B.

I have a model B and C, and the model B is a smoother machine.

As stated on the other thread, moving the chain from the small to the large cogwheel does NOT change the drag factor reading.

What does does do is to change the RESISTANCE at the same drag factor reading.

To have the lightest resistance, keep the chain on the large cogwheel, and close the damper.

To lighten it farther, make a speed ring out of black roofing paper or any other material and attach it to the damper side with plastic ties. Then you will have a range of resistances that are similar to the model C and D.

With the damper all the way closed, I get a drag factor reading of about 155. I found that I can lower it by cutting off the airflow with a cardboard box around the cage - all the way down to about 50, but I had been using it for 12 years or so before I got a PM3, so I am used to the high drag factor and just leave it as is. I didn't have the foggiest idea what a drag factor was until I got the PM3. I just used the bigger cog (15 teeth?) and the damper about halfway open. Once I found out about the drag factor, I started keeping the damper closed.

regards,

Bob S.
