Just had 2 weeks in Disney - Orlando..had a brilliant time, but boy, does it destroy your fitness!!

Had my 2nd go at 10k tonight - 36.24. Hope to be sub 36.00 by the end of next week and hope to push 35.30 by end of the month.

Against my better judgement, I got my wife to take of piccy of me in my AIO tonight - can't help but feel a bit vain posting a picture of myself, but if everyone is doing it, what the hell..tried posing gracefully like Carla but could only manage camp, so settled for a normal pose .....enjoy

Nice pic, Paul. Hope your wife doesn't mind if I pin it up on my wall beside Niall, Dougie, et al.

Green grass and leaves budding out on the trees already, eh? Must be nice! We're still building snowmen on our lawn.

Great shot, Paul! Hope you had a great time at Disney. There's still plenty of April left for getting that 10K where you want it (though I would be ecstatic with 36:anything!

I am afraid I am too shy and insecure to accept this level of scrutiny and will avoid my photo for a while.
It was suggested I could use a pair of soxs but didn't think that would help the Taff case on honesty.

Question: In my last 5K row I was holding a HR of 174-178 for the better part of 15 mins. Previously my anerobic threshold was early 170's so the question is how far to push for the 2k....looks like I may have to be getting into mid-180's which for someone of 39 is getting scary close to MHR (I did a full treadmill MHR test about 5 years ago and managed 189).

What are other people in their late thirties/early forties seeing in terms HR on 2K/5K etc.....would be interested?

I'm 44 and I get to about 160-170, i don't think I can get my rate any higher, my legs just won't let me. Normally, once I see it up in the 160's I back off a little. You sound pretty damned fit to me

I always use a monitor when training but never when doing a test piece, because you have to go how you feel not what the monitor says.On the last rugby test i did i hit 191 but i did not know because i wore a wrist
stap monitor. If i had seen it was that high i would of stopped even though i felt within in my max effort. I will be 45 in a couple of weeks
so was well over 220 minus your age max. HR of 180 is not uncomon for me but it also drops to 40 when well rested.

Hey nice 43 second improvement on the 10K, Speedy!!! A small 18 seconds behind Andreas in the #1 spot and 33 seconds to top the CTC board.

Jo Lyons is 71 seconds ahead of me. I don't know if I can catch her but I am working on it! Off to to another shot today, goal is to average 2:01 instead of 2:01.9. That will put me at about 40:19--still a good 52 seconds behind. A lot of seconds to chip away at (like she is sitting still for me to try to catch...NOT!)

Carla, you matched my rugby challenge time so I think you have plenty left in the tank for 10k. The secret is to rest beforehand and not listen to your own innibitions. You can easily do sub-40. Set your outbound 5k at 19.45 and do the second half at 2.00/500.

I suspect once you have one sub-40m under your belt you will go a lot a lot faster....

Done it!

:D :D
Beat my target for this shot by 5 seconds--PB by 22 seconds!!

40:14.9 av 2:00.7 25 spm
8:06.2 2:01.5 24
8:06.3 2:01.5 24
8:04.8 2:01.2 24
8:03.2 2:00.8 27
7:54.4 1:58.6 29

(on slides)

It felt pretty awful at the end and I have to say I might have quit but I had my Taff T shirt on--and that would have been inexcusable.

My husband and daughter scared the crap out of me. When I finished I had my eyes shut and was just sort of sliding up and down, heaving, and when I opened them they were standing there suddenly and made me jump off the seat and yelp. They got a pretty good laugh out of it!
