Hello I am quite New to the Indoor rowing crowd. I have Carpal Tunnel and the first few time I have tryed diffrent way to Grip the Handle. With thumbs under in line with my wrist. Thumbs out pointing at each other. Just finger tips around the handle. I was always in pain. I have come up with a wrist strap that go's around my wrist and around the handle, you still use your thumb and index finger to keep had position but you pull more with the wrist instead of your tight grip or finger tips. It has givin me pain free rowing for some time now and has put the fun back into the game. I have thought about selling the wrist straps for $30 or $35, but don't know if the need is out there. I can E-mail some pictures if anybody is interested... Just E-mail me. Scott at alaskancooley@acsalaska.net

Scott

(I have used mine on occasion when I have had hand pain.) I think you are way over-priced.

I'd suggest that looking to maintaining a good grip and flat wrists would also help your situation. It is okay to use "helpers" to avoid pain temporarily, but relying on them leaves the base problem in place and may even make you more prone to easy injury in the future.

As what you are suggesting is also used commonly in weight-lifting, and I have used "dead lift straps", but only for a short time, because once I gave it some thought, it seemed reasonable that if I can't hang onto the bar it's probably my bodies way of saying "that's too heavy for you, and you are risking injury". After taking some time building up more slowly, I found that I was able to hang on and lift the greater weight, it just took a little patience. Just my opinion.

Yes I have seen lifting straps before, and have used them for dead lifting and shoulder rolls. but you still have to hold on to the strap and handle. My straps you could still reposition your hands in or out on the handle while you still row.. you could even let go and just pull with your wrist if you wanted to, but you still should hold on to the Handle for control.I really enjoy rowing and my left hand go'd completely numb, and if you don't have Carpal Tunnel you have no Idea how it affects you.I can still hold the handle but just can't feel my hand. but now with these I am pain free. I used to just be able to go about 15 min. with only 10 min of pain ... now I can go 30 pain free. The comment was made that it a little high priced I would pay twice that.
