I am reasonably interested in American football and would like to be more informed. Even without looking I am certain that there are a myriad of sites to log onto. However my ideal might be a site that produces a daily e-mail of latest information. Much like reading the back pages of a sports newspaper

The second best option might be to find a web-site that provides that summary nice and succintly.

Any ideas or suggestions.

Once I have done all that I need tp pick a team to follow in more detail. I still have not got my head around the franchising of teams.

Foret the Patriots - they are winners, as are the Colts. If you want to follow a team that has nowhere to go but up root for my team - the Buffalo Bills. They can drive you crazy with their proclivity for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

john

Of course, nobody will know why you're wearing the towel around your neck ... to them it's only something you wave like a bloody fool!

You should also follow the NY Jets, of New York City.

Second, there is no way we can point you to only one site ... that would be like trying exactly the same thing for Premier League football. I agree that nfl.com is great, but so are the large sports news sites like espn.com, sportline.com, etc.

Finally, explain the confusion around "franchising"? How is what the NFL does any different than what's done in football over there? Isn't there private ownership of the football clubs there?

-- Mark

Franchising.

In the UK the only team to have moved location (and changed their name) is Wimbledon who became the Milton Keene Dons (or MK Dons), Wimbledon being previous known as the Dons. They are totally derided by most other teams and fans.

In NFL I understand that a number of teams have been bought out, moved to new cities and changed their name. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Currently watching Dallas v Clevenad. Cleveland started off as it to overun the Cowboys but they are back in it now at 7-10. Don't know when the game was played but it is live to me.

What I asked for might not exist, but it was worth asking for in my opinion. I will check the sites mentioned

J

Dwayne,

I do live in Sac but moved here from upstate New York only 3 years ago and old alliances die slowly. I can't get excited about SF or the Raiders but have bcome a fan of the Sac Kings (basketball). Seems any team I root for is doomed to mediocrity

john

Its football in weather it was meant to be played in-mind numbinng cold.

I live about 8 miles east of the stadium. I had season tickets until a couple of years ago. It got to be too much like a rock concert and less like a football game.
I realized that 80% of the people there I would have nothinng to do with in the outside world. I came to the conclusion I was paying to surrender my personal dignity and safety upon entering the gate-way to many obnoxious drunks.

Just at this moment my wife is railing at me about 'foolball',as she calls it, being played on Christmas. A good Michigan girl, her only allegiance is to the Detroit Red Wings. Since I've been married it was either xc or the Bills tickets for a weekend activity. I still watch them as I'm working on my 'honeydo' list. At least they snatched victory from the usual tendency to collapse in the 4th qtr.,yesterday. I was able too see some great games over the years.

My wife just erged a 10k and now its my turn.

Sacramento's a great town. We were there in 2000 at the Olympic trials when my wife participated in the 20k racewalk.

Thanx for the input Samroot. My #2 son was a rabid Bills fan when we lived in Rochester. Every year we bought two tickets for his birthday (in November) and he and I attended a game for many years. He is still a rabid fan and every Sunday he, I, my other son, and my first grandson get together and watch the Bills on Sunday Ticket. That's 3 generations of Bills fans and we love it.

john
