yeah, that magic 7:00 line seems to get farther away the closer you get to it!! i was hoping to reach it by year end but won't cry if it doesn't happen. considering where i started 15 months ago - 11 min 2k - i'm ok with my progress.G-dub wrote:Well done SSBob! I feel your pain. Took a year to get from 7:08 to 7:02.5. Expecting another one (I hope that's all it is) to get the last 3 seconds. You stomped your 500 though by the looks of your signature line! That's pretty good for your size I would think.
as far as the 500 goes, i did that early on in my rowing career when for some reason i thought pulling the handle as hard as possible until exhaustion was a good use of my time. doubt i could do it now although i'm in way better shape aerobically.
anyway, thx for the congrats everyone!

Achieved my goal which was to be average! 7:46.3 2k which is smack in the middle for my age group, 50-59 hwt male. Not great progress but progress nonetheless. 8:10 to 7:59 to 7:46 in 9 months. I'm 58. My next goal is 7:40 six months from now.
I was following the IP but didn't feel like I was putting in enough meters. A couple of months ago I started rowing 8k five days a week, all I have time for. Past two weeks I did the last two weeks of the IP. Not scientific but I hit my target. I should probably get back on the IP. I'm inclined though to row 8k four days and some kind of speed intervals on the fifth. Whatever I do I'll be on the C2 every morning.

Am fasted row
1 k easy wu
Went for new PR (1:18.7 previous) was thinking about 1:17.7 as this is current American record)
DF was max
Fairly pleased, rate was still a bit on low side, felt pacing was decent as I was just barely fading at the end- feel as though I've still got a bit more in me- was nice to get a little bit comfortable with pace
1k cd row
Back up to altitude tomorrow for another week or 2 of training then I'll be back to sea level again to give it some more attempts

Thanks all, training has been a bit "unconventional" with submaximal rate restricted 500m tests nearly every day-but results are ultimately what counts- I'll run through a similar routine again over next few weeks and give it another go- recovery is going well

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
2k PB by 15" - I love a split so the final monitor screen below is just the last 800m.
This is probably pretty fair based on other recent pieces - I wouldn't call it completely 100% and there wasn't a ridiculous sprint at the end. Reckon I could probably get the pace down to around 1:47.0 or so at present. Be nice to have the spm up a bit higher next time though.
Will be useful to have this as a better comparison point for CTC etc. and feel like I might now get back into some Wolverine L4 workouts with 1:48 as my reference!
