erg -- axle broken on arrival

Post by BT-irish » April 7th, 2006, 2:40 am

Hi, everyone. I recently purchased a model D, and it arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, the tip of the flywheel axle (and the lock nut holding it on) were broken and loose inside the flywheel casing. I discovered this when I made my first (fortunately light) pull on the chain to discover an alternation between a rattling sound and a metal-to-metal screeching.

I left a message with Concept 2, and while I certainly trust whatever they tell me to do... I'm curious if anyone is familiar enough with the flywheel's construction to tell me how difficult it will be to replace the axle myself. It's hard to tell from the schematic exactly how much of a bear it will be to make this replacement. I would certainly prefer to just have the replacement parts mailed to me, if I can make the repair myself. Thanks!

Okay, I spoke with Concept 2 this morning, and they are going to send a new flywheel assembly without the monorail, and then I'll ship back the broken flywheel assembly. This was the best solution, I think.
