(jack is right of course 7 boats and one more to float 8 - my mistake)

Hi there and thanks - you are very welcome to join us - a slightly motley crew from all over the world. I think the left coaster is there is BC with you.
We need name rank and serial number to introduce each other - ohcanada just doesn't work.
If you go to first blog on this thread you can see a bit of our history - lots of originals from the UK but then Europe as well
The Australian connection happened in the past 5 years of so based around my gym activities in Sydney and then there are north americans as well

The CTC changes each month depending on who is choosing (which is part of the competition) It is going through a golden period with some very very fast people at the top.
you go to http://www.c2ctc.com/
There is a tab to join a new member and you nominate the Forum Flyers as you club. It normally requires you going in a second time to get it all done
Then you just put in the results as many times as you like each month and you will be placed in a boat with the appropriate times which will change as new entries occur
Best of luck and welcome

Lindsay - you are inspiring.

Lady here, in beautiful Victoria, BC Canada!
I am a newb, so I'm not a heavy hitter like the rest of the FF appear to be, but may I be your one more? And if so, how do I go about getting into the CTC for May?
Very welcome, we all from everywhere and certainly no heavy hitters all. Easy to join like Lindsay told you. Feel free to ask.

Georgina at the 11th hour as predicted--Forty Flyers in the points! I'm on the bubble in 8. Nothing unusual there. :|

Yes 8 boats is good work.
Oh Canada - what is your "real" name age group etc? (not prying)

The good news overnight is that the High Flyers (a group of ten FFers) have won the Indoor Rowers League 8 on 8 team competition! Yaaay
It has been going for 8 months and is based on a competition set up in France which has an individual (by decades) and team event.
Goes from September to April - different monthly events between 1 minute and 10kms. There is an adjustment for age and weight based on relationship to WR times.
http://indoorrowers.org/en/irwlmenu (you need to log in to see the results)

In the overall men my gym buddy Terry won it, I was 6th and Henry 12th but it needs consistent high performance from 8 each month including 2 ladies so a real team effort.
Should be on again in September both team and individual.

Regarding Sub-7's May CTC challenge beginning today, I suggested earlier in this thread that a null or empty rest period could be used between each "long and short" (777m and 223m) and 1' 45" between each short and long (223m and 777m).

CORRECTION: There should be 2' 20" of rest following each rep of 223m except the last (7' total rest divided into 3 rest periods). I apologize for my airmath. Please note, as stated previously, that one should set 777 and 223m as variable intervals (with zero rest between). The idea is to effectively erg this challenge as a 4x1k (777+223). Collapsing the two distances into one longer distance when setting the workout in the monitor is not kosher!

I believe the wording of this challenge says it begs to be gamed. Doing so has educational as well as competitive possibilities. A number of participants will redo the challenge several times in a month. For those folk, tinkering with the allocation of rest may lead to an AHA! moment and in any case is good extra practise setting varable interval sessions. For others (perhaps me ), the KISS principle may apply.

First Flyer into the fray: from cold start w/ the suggested 1' rest periods: 17:04.9/2:08.1 pace. I'll do it "in the manner of" 4x1k tomorrow, early afternoon, same cold start. I'm already having second thoughts about spitballing a better time for that arrangement. :? I did say it would be educational.

I think that's obvious because Sub7 haven't been prescriptive with the rests. You could row the first 3K as a continuous piece, take seven minutes rest then all-out sprint that last 1K.

I'll be trying to get it completed early rather than later, I nearly busted my 100% (all 134 earlier CTCs) record by having a terrible weekend off sick from 21st to 26th April. It's a public holiday in the UK tomorrow so we may see some entries pile in after that.

I agree that Sub7 is inviting some tinkering with allocation of rest. It is not obvious to me that one may 'set' all or part of the total meterage as a continuous row. Rowing thru a rest period of zero duration differs little from a continuous row except that the couple shakes (technical language) while the monitor resets to the new distance respects/exploits the letter of the law. You may be willing to take liberties that I am not comfortable taking?

Are you Dougie on the Red Line or do you have a new handle?

I left Sub7 and joined RLR because (like a few other RLR members) Rod Chinn p*ssed me off.

That's a good question, Deb. The season beginning this month is referred to as the 2016-17 season on the C2 Log but I'm not certain precisely when Forum Flyers 2016 becomes Forum Flyers 2017--next January maybe? I'll say push the red button to join FF16 and maybe the designation for the year-straddling season will update when it updates? Lindsay may know more.
