All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.24.16

Post by Kona2 » April 25th, 2016, 9:28 am

There are a lot of lists of the Seven Wonders ...Seven Wonders of the World, Seven Wonders of the Natural World, Seven Wonders of the Modern World, etc....but who knew there was a list called Seven Wonders of the Solar System....? A list compiled by Astronomy Magazine in 1999 listed some things that we might be on the lookout for as we continue our galactic journeys:

Enceladus - sixth largest moon of Saturn (how many? 62 moons to go with those rings...
The Great red spot - a persistent anticyclonic storm on Jupiter...said to have been raging for well over 350 years now....
The Asteroid belt - a donut shaped (circumstellar disc) belt located between Mars and Jupiter...offshoots are of particular interest to the Osiris-Rex mission (they're landing equipment on the surface of an asteroid)
The surface of the Sun - hydrogen with some helium and a few other elements thrown in...roughly middle-aged...good for maybe 4 more billion years
The Oceans of Earth - we're kind of unique with planetary liquid surface water....except maybe for Titan, which has its own lake
The Rings of Saturn - who knew they had names?! There's the unimaginative A thru G (whoa...it's like Washington DC streets)....and then there's Phoebe...Cassini...Pallene...Anthe...Janus...
Olympus Mons - standing the equivalent of two and a half times that of Mt Everest above sea level, this is a large shield volcano on Barsoom...I mean Mars...it's apparently the youngest volcano on Mars

I tell you we've got some adventures and good sight-seeing ahead in our galactic journey. You'll want to be there with us!

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

Paul B 2,066 m
Tony 2,222 m ...a palindrome!
Julian 4,282 m
Stefan 5,000 m

Kristine 5,420 m ....she's alive!
Tombeur 5,518 m
Norma 5,555 m ...a high five palindrome!
David T 6,500 m
Noel 8,011 m
Ross 8,299 m
Minnie 9,999 m ....a palindrome in German....
Virginia 10,000 m
William H 10,000 m

Larry 12,707 m
Danno 15,051 m ...a palindrome!
Steve W 25,325 m

Be thinking about those goals for next year....will you be a meter millionaire? A multi-millionaire? At least on board the good ship Luna-Tic?

I am sure you are relieved to receive this news, Norma. To be sure, one day at a time, but I for one am confident this good news is a precedent for more to come. Tom R (tombeur) [settled in Illinois but grew up in Metuchen, NJ--not far from Princeton]

Haha, I grew up and married in Illinois, but settled in NJ where there were jobs for chemists.

is it too early...i rowed 10,221 meters today for my prederby row.....i started at 0 and as you can see went a tiny bit over.....because i started at 0 the timer stopped when i had to adjust my headband and stop to drink....does this count or does the erg need to be set at 10,000 at the start.....or should time be added for my stoppages...i'm slow...adding time won't bother me :}
