Quick technical question: considering it is on Sunday week already, what do I need to do in terms of tapering the training, just taking it easy in the 4-5 days before the race ? Also, I seem to recollect some mentions of doing a 1,250m and a 750m a few days before that at 80-90% to have a clear picture of the pace for race days that correct ?
My PB is at 7'41 at 1.55.7 split. Considering I now got the 500m down to 1'36.9 and I can keep 4 easy intervals with 1'r within the 1'48-1'52 range, I am thinking to go 1.52 / 1.51 / 1.50 / all out. How does that sound ?
Thanks.
Sounds good, but you still time, you can do a 90/95% 2k to get a better idea. For the race you should he rested, keep training, but less, keep some 2k paced work, but just short.
And important, have a race plan, keep it to 1500 meter in, from there empty the tank.

Here's to 7:20, M. Papy. A plan is a plan so stick to it by not turning that initial 1:52 split into 1:45. And if you don't? You wouldn't be the first.

That is a fair plan considering how you are improving Olivier and the hard part is to stick with it - getting "excited" and heading off too quickly is the biggest thing to avoid. Don't worry about the average on the display just your stroke reading as it takes about 500m for the average to get to where it should be because of the first few strokes. A gentle negative split is a good way to go.
IMO whilst a taper is important but don't do it too early and as henry has said I think it is best to keep training with the last hard session on about Wednesday but don't do huge meters but between now and then you can go fairly hard including some <2km pace intervals and a 1500 at race pace. A hard 2k in the next week would be useful. Light session on Thursday with some race starts then rest Friday and Saturday is not a bad plan.
very best of luck - it is a fun thing to do.

Ambushed a new contributor tonight from the gym here in Sydney - Sean - young strong OTW guy with off season training OTE so we may get a few months out of him - 5581m @1:47.5

Thank you for the suggestions on the 2k prep, guys. I'll work out an assortment of sessions until Wed next week.
I did get carried away at BRIC last year and went too fast on the first split and paid the price later on. Planning to be more disciplined this time. I will not be a Forum flyer and Dier

good morning all.
I am not savvy with all the technical talk around indoor rowing - lol. I have been just trying to do the challenge as well as improve my overall distance for 30 mins. Today I broke the 5700 m mark which for me is huge as I have been oscillating between the 5500 and 5600 distance. I am toying with the idea of trying a 10k in the next few weeks to see how I do. Anyhow kudos to all of you who are able to know all your times at the various distances and eventually i may get there! have a great Sunday everyone!!!

89 watts maintained for half hour, 5 watt (6%) increase over average wattage for 5700m. Good progress, Fiona?

I just noticed that the description/instruction of the May CTC states that one should:
Record the distance for the 4000m, not including the rests.
.
Not much chance of mucking that up!

Today was a tough go - i managed to increase for the challenge and somehow found some extra "umph" to power through and get to 5754m. I have now been challenged by my trainer to push to the 6000m mark in 30 minutes.
An extra 300m is going to be tough. Any suggestions? and thanks!

You are making great progress Fiona - you will get to 6000+ just by continuing the hard work you are doing now. It is a matter of setting a pace and holding it for these longer time trials and as fitness improves so does the pace you can hold. Keep at it.

Lindsay, if Georgina rows, she would drop in there somewhere and that would be eight afloat I think. Right now seven. Good that a couple of the Londoners got off at the last tubestop and rejoined! This take on an old jingle comes to mind:
There were six in the boat
And the fast one said:
Roll over, roll over!!
So they all rolled over
and one fell out
There were five in the boat
And the slow one said:
This always happens to me!

Lindsay - you are inspiring.
Lady here, in beautiful Victoria, BC Canada!
I am a newb, so I'm not a heavy hitter like the rest of the FF appear to be, but may I be your one more? And if so, how do I go about getting into the CTC for May?
