1,000,000 meter club

Post by mochrie71 » April 21st, 2016, 11:30 am

Shameless boasting: I just reached my first million meters today in just less than 6 months! It's a feat I'm extremely proud of having never rowed a day before Oct 27, 2015. I reached the goal rowing a 10k today. I was going for a pb but burned out a little too fast and came up short by 8 seconds. I also reached 60lbs weight loss as of today. I love what the rowing machine has done for my life. The concept2 erg may have truly saved my life. Feeling grateful.

I was looking for somewhere to post the fact that I have just done pretty much the same as this today. 1,000,000 meters in 25 weeks, started on the 17th of December and 25 weeks later (with a 3 week layoff due to a rowing related back injury) have completed the million. I'm rather pleased with myself but don't seem to be able to share the elation with anyone. I have never really rowed before but just got it into my head that this is what I was going to do. Since December I've lost around 28lbs, and I've managed to get my 2k below 7 mins (once) 6:53, and my 5k down to 17:51. I've alway been into some regular sport, but would recommend the Rower to anyone, recovery times, towl it takes on the body etc. I think I'm a bit addicted.....

How are you getting on now? Still keeping it up? My concern is now I've got to 1,000,000 I might loose a bit of motivation.

First of all, congratulations! I know what dedication it takes to reach that goal so quickly. Getting to 1,000,000 was definitely a goal to keep me motivated to push hard daily. I even got my free 1,000,000 meter T-shirt so that was cool. I now proudly wear it to the gym. Did you order yours?

After going out of town for a week, then getting sick for a week, I slowed down some and my fitness level dropped drastically. The distance and times I was able to achieve before my break seemed impossible for a few weeks after getting back to rowing. However, I was able to get back to the same level again and I'm feeling great. I was rowing 8100 meters (5 miles) per day and I've now lost 70 lbs so I've reached my goal weight of 210 lbs. My wife doesn't want me to disappear, so I'm now rowing 5K per day and incorporating more strength training along with my rowing and cardio. Now I have my sights set on 2,000,000 meters and my long sleeve shirt. I should hit that in December. I hope you're able to keep motivated.

1 Mm is definitely a lot of meters, and you did it in a nice number of days.
It is a great exercise, and I find setting goals like that for myself are good motivation.
You are already seeing the benefits of losing some weight, and generally improved health.
Motivation can be tricky, but setting goals is something I usually do. If you did 1 Mm in 25 weeks, you might set a goal to do the next million in the next 25 weeks. I often will pick a date near then which is significant in some way, e.g. next million by my wife's birthday, Thanksgiving, end of the ranking season, etc.

Well done on your 1,000,000 meter achievement mate.
How do you get a 1,000,000 meter club t-shirt?
I live in Australia and I don't think concept 2 australia give them out.
Any suggestions are appreciated?
