Hi, I was just curious what college coaches look 4 when recruiting. I'm 6'2, 190lbs. and 2k at a 6:35.5 and just wondering what I should do to get noticed. Any information would be much appreciated!

I recall that Rowing News (www.rowingnews.com) had an issue on this topic not long ago. You can buy back issues through the website, although you might have to email them to figure out what issue it was in. I beleive it was a spring 05 issue.<br /><br />

If I wanted the answer to your question, I would ask some college coaches directly.<br /><br />Go to the websites of colleges that interest you, click on "athletics," click on "crew" or "rowing," and then click on "coaches." You are still growing at age 17. Row a lot of distance so your rowing muscles grow during your growth spurt. This will get your 2K time down around 6 minutes. Rowing coaches will notice!<br /><br />Cheers, <br /><br />Paul Flack

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've had a few top rowing programs contact me including some ivies. Canoeist, would it be possible to get it at 6 mins at my current weight and height?

This is based on the fact that I put on 25 pounds of muscles during my last growth spurt 32 years ago. my very good friend was just recruited by columbia and i was discussing with him times to egt in to a college for a heavy weight, and he said the break off point is 6:30 so i would work harder and get more built up and you will almost be guaranteed a spot

You might consider being a lightweight, since you're only 6'2.

If your rowing technique is good take video of yourself and send the coaches the footage.<br />Good luck,<br />XENO

Not a good idea. I went from the fastest on the swim team to the slowest. This kind of weight loss would lose too much lean mass and not contribute to optimal performance.<br />
