Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
The plan today was to do an HM in comfortable high UT2 range (HR between 135 to 143) just to build up the mileage. Started quite relaxed and noticed that this comfortable UT2 rhythm was actually slightly below my PB pace.
For a change of scenery, I changed the display to the calorie count, that was a nice distraction. My PB pace was between 770 and 800. Kept that going for the first 14km, had a quick drink break, and then gradually upped the pace to 850+, to finish in the 950-1050 calorie range in the last 2k. Final result : 2 minutes 28 seconds improvement, with an HM at 1h33'43"8 (2'13"2 pace). Really happy with this one

Nice advance there, Papy! Never heard of the calorie rate trick but lookiing at your monitor buttons, I wager you or someone at your gym is a display mode surfer! Whatever keeps your socks up is good, right? ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Thank you Jack. Just read this tip in my indoor rowing book of changing the display to break the habit and not getting always hell-bent on the particular split time. That was in a chapter about variety and enjoyment of rowing. well, it worked this time.jackarabit wrote:Nice advance there, Papy! Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Yesterday I tied my HM PB from 12 years ago - 83:35.
I was very happy with that, although I may have pushed just that teeny bit harder if a knew I could have broken my previous one. (I hadn't checked ahead of time.)

500 meter pb.
Think not 100%, will go for that in April. Need some more speed and to be fresh.
121.7/44 drag 150 (high for me), 1 hole showing.
121.5 44 low 1.17
121.0 40
121.5 44
121.5 44
123.0 47 legs locked in in the last strokes. 1.24 last stroke

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Good news! My gym FINALLY fixed their erg. Looks like it got a new chain and (I'm assuming) a new sprocket. It's like rowing on a brand new C2!mwalsh wrote:My 2k time has gotten a bit better since I started out, going from 9:40 then to a PB of 8:38.8 now. My splits are pretty consistent at ~2:09 for each 500m, likewise my SR at 32-34spm. I set the drag factor to around 132, based on a post I saw on here indicated for a guy my size, and that is about a 6 on the damper for the gym’s erg.
Old PB 8:38.8 at 32-34spm. New PB 8:28.7 at 27-28spm.
A couple of things are still eluding me:
1) Force curve. Mine still resembles what C2 calls a "double-diamond" when I'm really trying to score big watts on a pull. Is that necessarily a bad thing? When I go for a "good" force curve my watts per stroke is pretty average (165-175).
2) Watts. I know I'm capable of a 210w pull, but it's eluding me as to how to get there on every stroke and, as mentioned above, how to get there and still have a decent looking force curve.
I'm still aiming for that sub-8 minute 2k and I'd also like to bring my SR down a bit more.

You probably need to put some basic information about yourself in your signature like age, weight and height. You may have posted this before but without some stats its hard to comment on performance and what your targets should be.mwalsh wrote:

Heartrate would be really useful as well but you would need to get yourself a Garmin chest strap for that PM4 at the Gym to see how hard your really rowing. If its a PM3 then its going to be tough to get it easily.
