I've just been looking around this forum now and then since I bought my own model D rowing machine and had a couple of questions about virtual teams.

How many virtual teams are there in existance?

How do you go about joining them?

Do they all accept new members?

Is it possible to start your own virtual team and how would I go about doing that if I wanted to?

There are loads. They're all pretty much "unofficial", as far as I'm aware. Technically, all you need to do to "join one" as far as the online rankings go is to select the team's name into your concept2.com online ranking profile where it says "University/Club Standings Affiliation", although it may be considered somewhat rude to "join" a team without asking. Some teams will be fairly strict with their membership, but others are more on a "we'll take anyone" basis (like Taff Attack or Rowpro Rowers).

If you want to join a specific team, you could check out the university/club standings, then click on the place number to see individual members. That should bring up a list of members and you could try emailing one of them to ask if they mind you joining. Alternatively, check out this forum (or the UK equivalent) and look for people looking for members or just ask around. e.g. This thread is for 'Row Pain, Row Gain', while this one is for Taff Attack.

If you want to start a new one, follow the instructions and email "denah@concept2.com". If you're not concerned with the online side of things, all you need to do to start your own virtual team is to say "I've just started Team Demonic Row Monsters" then get people to join. You may, of course, choose a different name.

"Here's" an appeal for "stray rowers" to join the Iron Oarsman virtual team. Several of the responses on that thread tout the virtues of other virtual teams as well. Be sure to check out Xeno's response to Neil & Kevin about half-way down the first page...

Clearly, you'd be welcome on the Iron Oarsman team!

Kind regards,

Alissa

I decided to join the team "W.I.S.E. (WelshIrishScotsEnglish)" so us Brits can stick together.

Any other Brits are welcome to join us as long as they can log at least 500,000m a year.
