Some of the qualifying times seem a little nutty as well. If you're a 80 year old lightweight, you've got to be over 2 minutes faster than an 80 year old heavyweight! And a 70 year old heavyweight has to be faster than a 60 year old heavyweight...and if you're an 80 year old woman, they apparently aren't interested no matter how fast you might be. Or maybe you're automatically included if you still have a pulse.

No doubt these are drawn from race results and some categories don't exactly get a statistically significant collection of entrants, but still...

Too much to hope, I suppose, that the selection of the USIRT (not the development squad) will be done in a transparent fashion so that we don't have to endure the usual discussion about cronyism?

Bill

The times were chosen by taking the winning time at the 2005 CRASH-B Sprints
and adding 5%. In the older age categories we frequently see lightweights beating heavyweights, or an older age group time being faster than a younger age group time. As for 80+ year old women; we have no record of any having rowed at CRASH-Bs over the past 2 years.
The final team that goes to the European Championships in Copenhagen will be selected by the two coaches, Mike Teti and Tom Terhaar.

Maybe I am hallucinating, but it seems to say July 1 now. I would guess they changed it.

Dwayne, are you thinking of competing in indoor rowing again? It would be good for the sport to have you back and racing. The Rowpro community has just been waiting for the clash of the titans to be held online.

That was the original date that they had hoped to have picked the dev squad by. All squad members will be on the list by 20 June.

Dwayne

It looks like we need an impromptu RowPro 2K race this weekend? I don't know if that is enough time to train for a sprint. Maybe I will pass this year. Next year I will be 50 and won't have such a hard time making the training squad.

Dwayne, you are now in the same age bracket as me. Rowing a 6:24 2K should be fairly easy for you. Good luck this year.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
