Actually, I tried to edit or delete that post after I thought about it. It came across as too snide, but it wan't intended that way. I was pleased to see your excitement about making an important goal, but couldn't resist a bit of teasing about your getting carried away with it. Congratulations on the result and the best of luck on the 20th!

4 x 1K:
Goal: finish all 4 and do it at last 2K plus 1 (1:46.8) - i needed to know if I can PB on race on 20th.
Actual: 1:46.3 and Ive never actually finished all four before!

1 - 1:47.1
2 - 1:46.4
3 - 1:46.3
4 - 1:45.6

I'm really stoked. This session has had my number for a long time. I am starting to feel pretty good 2 weeks out from event.
Very telling, if you don,t do stupid things you will race fine.

Bob, I knew exactly where you were coming from! I had a good chuckle. I'll probably have a hard crash after this one - lots of couch time in my future.

Henry, stupid things are always possible :D but i think ill stick with what Ive been doing the last few weeks.

I have found it hazardous to post a report shortly after completing a successful erg piece. The combination of physical exhaustion and mental euphoria is not conducive to rational thought. However, it is always fun to share the results as soon as you can.

The PB is there. The Magic Marker will be a close thing. Getting back the 1"/500 bumpout on the 4x1k plus .5" per split won't do it. Have to draw it down another ~1.3" overall for 6:59.9. I'd be ecstatic if I could do that!! A close shave is a good shave if you don't get nicked.

Go to the room of the half dream, Glenn. In there you can make every stroke count. Don't come out until it's done. Good luck, buddy! Jack

I was wondering who would provide the cold dose of truth! I wasn't going to tell SideshowBob that its not completely there yet for THAT THING that I'm not thinking about until it happens. But I'm a lot closer than I was, considering I've never brought that session all the way home. And right before it I was debating if i should just bag the event - this made me want to hang in there for it. Making progress sure is more fun than going the other way!

I like the sound of the "room of the half dream", BTW.

Understood, but I think adrenaline will easily make up for that. We're rooting for you, G-Dub!

The second of three races for the season is in the books. Did the 500m at St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Pelham yesterday. Pulled 1:23.1 versus 1:22.2 last year. Did no training at this pace until a few days ago and therefore I am happy with a non-PR performance. I have a 2k test with my Row House NYC team mates this afternoon. I am not sure what to expect after yesterday's race, but it will be good to get the work in no matter what. Will do the 8x500 and the 4x1000 PP workouts and one training session with my daughter's college team before tapering into CRASH-B's. The season goes by quickly. - Chris

You guys are awesome. I really appreciate the good cheer.

Good luck with the test Chris. No need to sweat it, its just a workout.

I'm finally getting back into it after finishing my cut last year. In oct/nov/dec last year I had minimal motivation to row since I was over 6 months into cutting and felt drained all the time, so I wasn't doing too many hard pieces. I made a new PB for the first time on a piece since last september. Did the 8x500 3:30r in 1:50.5 vs my previous best of 1:51.3, and did it about 7 pounds lighter (158 currently vs 165). Did 149km in January vs an avg of 80 - 90km / month last year. I plan on buiking the entire year to gain 10 - 21 lbs so I think I can make some good progress here. Every 6 days I do 4 pieces (in addition to 4 lifting sessions and 1 non-rowing cardio session):
- 1 HIIT workout (8x500 3:30r or speed pyramid)
- 1 30r20 piece
- 2 10km UT2 pieces

Followed yesterday's 500m race with a 2k test at Row House NYC with my CRASH-B team mates. Very pleased with the piece. I wanted to ride a 1:40 split for about 1700m and then see what was in the tank. I was happy to find that my tank had 30-something pulls of 1:35/1:36 to get down to a 1:39.5 avg split and a 6:38.2 time. A 0.6 second PR.

My 500m splits were: 1:40.1; 1:40.4; 1:40.1; 1:37.5.

I am encouraged. My legs were burning by the end probably somewhat because of yesterday's race. I hope to find a couple of seconds up in Boston with a few PP speed interval workouts at 2k pace followed by a taper over the coming three weeks. Today's test has me convinced that the modified PP is working. Best. - Chris

Nice work Chris! That's a fantastic PB! I'm looking forward to see how all the hard work is paying off for you.

Glenn - Really nice work on the 4 X 1000. That's my workout today. I'm going to stick mostly to the PP this week with lessening some intensity and distances. My "normal" week was PP Monday to Friday (I'm on week 3 this week with the 4 X 1000 and the waterfall). This week, I'm going to do both interval workouts but lessen my distances from 9K to probably 7K this week and on Friday (my timed distance day) I'll just do a few short intervals (like four or so 100m sprints) and that's it. Take Saturday off and race Sunday.

Really looking forward to all the race results from everyone.
