Hi Steve,<br /><br />in the early stages of erging it is not uncommon to PB on a regular basis just as you get fitter in fact I dont think it is unreasonable in the first 6 months where erging is 'not your full time occupation' to be looking to PB each time you do a 5k or 10k and above. You only need to be 0.01 faster to PB and it is a bit like adding 0.5ks to your squat weights - it all adds up.<br /><br />Unless your Pb' s are 'balls to the wall' efforts that leave you dead for days then you should be up there each and every time if you are pushing yourself - some days it works some days it is not there and you back off, but continual improvement is the goal.<br /><br />The flip side of that coin is where you have a structured long term plan are maybe erging 5 - 7 plus sessions a week where you just cant go all out everyday<br /><br />Just my opinion

I switched to a weight loss focus after my initial two weeks and found that a steady pace where I was working, but not too hard, has been really good.<br /><br />I make a goal of a 5km row each night, then if I feel like it I stick on a couple of 1000m efforts or some 500's. Wednesday night is 10km night...and PB's (or attempts) come when I least expect it and am feeling good at the time...<br /><br />Plenty of times my splits are shocking and I don't feel like going any harder - but I figure it's better to do something than nothing! <br /><br />My long term goal (end of the year) is to get to the point where my 10km rows feel more like 5km does now...then knock out 10km a night.

Feeling guilty now, two days and no rowing ...gym tonight - I'll do a couple of kms after that...

New PB last night in the 500m ... 01:28.3<br /><br />I was fairly happy with this!

Started of a slow 1:00H training sesion today at 2:14/500m<br /><br />Finished off the last 1k at 2:00/500m, which is quite good as my 2k PB is 1:57<br /><br />Final result was 2:11.4 Missed my PB by 0.1sec<br /><br />Felt a bit shaky for a while though<br /><br />At least I added another 13500m to our total.<br /><br />Better luck next time.<br /><br />Cheers<br /><br />Tom

Speaking of PB's...I did 6:50.8 for 2,000m a couple of nights ago and I was fairly happy as well . I've never really tried to go fast on the C2 before and haven't done a hard 2k since my rowing days 20 years ago. Given that I'm about 15kg heavier than I should be and (as my wife keeps pointing out) not in great shape I'd figured 7:10 was a realistic goal.<br /><br />Barry

New PB tonight...5000m - 17:57.0<br /><br />The 5km a night is getting too easy now...in another week I'm going to move toward 10k...<br /><br />I want to get up near the Wests.... <br /><br />Steve<br /><br />

16 weeks to NZ Champs and I had to find out whether I still wanted to be a racer or a watcher so - <br /><br />Benchmark test:<br /> <br />2000m<br /> <br />0 - 500 --------- 1:39.1 / 30spm<br />500 - 1000 ---- 1:42.1 / 28spm<br />1000 - 1500 -- 1:42.2 / 28spm<br />1500 - 2000 -- 1:39.5 / 30spm<br /> <br />Total 6:42.8 / 1:40.7 / 29spm / 125df / Ave HR 92.5%<br /><br />Just under 14 secs off my best but with no speed work done (hence the low stroke rate) there was enough there and enough left in the tank to make a commitment to have a go <br /> <br />George
