jackarabit wrote:Tim, if I don't mistake, you are taking the average for eight as the new target pace. Exactly right! Certainly a central mechanism for encouraging and gauging progress in the Pete Plan. If you need further info on doing Pete Plan, I advise you to compare what you see in this thread to Pete Marston's "Lunch Hour" intro to the plan as originally devised and decide whether you are at a point in your training when a disciplined program and daily training cycle is what you need to improve or whether you are ready to coach yourself.

In the customary vocab of rowing and erging, the word "rate" is reserved for use when describing strokes taken per minute. "Pace" is defined as minutes taken to row 500m. A mere bagatelle here but loose usage can lead to misunderstandings.

Thanks for everyone that replied.

I will work on my vernacular

Actually, we are making pretty great beer over here these days - and I'm not talking about the Budweiser swill that we export everywhere. Our little city has 20 or so small craft breweries making interesting beers. It has even been named Beer City USA on a couple of occasions!

Sounds interesting. When the time comes and we all meet in Boston we will have some together after the races  .

done. especially if they have a winking lizard....

i travel a few times a year to cleveland (go Indians!!) - they have some decent brews.
Great Lakes make a decent IPA amd Nanobrews have some interesting flavours.
Actually went to the Octoberfest last year, nothing compared to munich, but fun..

still, nothing beats an unertl weissbier, but I am biased - the brewery is literally down the road from me...

Yep Dean, I need to get to Munich for Octoberfest some day. Been there other times though. I really enjoyed being there and had some really great beverages.

Cleveland's the wrong place in Ohio for Octoberfest. Need to try Cincinnati sometime. My Grandparents were Braun, Holscher, Zettler and Pfirrman. Yeah, that's a lot of German...

Couldn't resist. Felt better today and did 9000 meters. Not overly hard. Did this instead of doing the hard internals. 2:11 average over around 39 minutes and some change. Wife decided to try rowing today too. With the new gym having two Concept2 rowers side to side it was nice to show her some basic form. She lasted around 10 minutes and liked it. Perhaps I'll talk her into getting one for home yet!

Nice work on the PB Dean. Nice work everyone else too.

Shiner Bock (Texas) and anything from Yuengling (Pennsylvania) is about as good as it gets in CONUS!

This one was within a short walk of the hotel used for last season's WIRC:

For me it was a great place to go for our after comp dinner.

Re the usual commercial beers in the US: When the so-called lite beers first came out many years ago, some one talked me into trying a taste of one of the most popular brands at the time (still in business and going strong). I took the obligatory taste and handed it back with the advice to run it through the horse again.

Did the same workout as Mike - around 40 minutes at 2:10 ish. HR was a titch high, either it was the BBQ I had for lunch or a rest day is in order. Will rest tomorrow and do 5 X 1500 or 5K Friday.

Jack - around your stomping grounds is Dogfish Head, Victory, Stoudts and a bunch of other good ones too.

Forgot my HR-monitor, got bored with scheduled steady distance and ended up with
1) a free-rated 10k @ 39:37 (SPM avg. 27)
2) 15min stretching in-between and
3) a strapless 5k rate restricted (max SPM 22) with an average of SPM 21 and a time of 20:42.0 (2:04ish pace).

Reached 2 MM for the season and 102k for the VTC.

Nice meters Hartmut!
Day at the gym today. The wife still hads a few tickets that need to be used before the end of the month. As we still are off work till Monday and the kids start school today it sounded like a cunning plan.

I did manage 5km warmup on the rower before weights.ended up worth 30 minutes indoor cycling and sauna. 3hrs in all. Will do today's session tomorrow...

w2d3, 4x2000m. probably my least favorite workout of the bunch but being the second time around I at least have an idea of what times to do.

last time I did: 8:11.3, 8:11.5, 8:11.1 and 8:11.6

hit my target time going in of 8:05 and which was an improvement of 6 seconds each 2000m. last two were tough during the last 500m stretch.

looking good and by the looks of your HR, plenty of reserves that can be tapped into once the "engine" is built...
