If you ask me (which you have) I would say for you to do the 1st 500m at 1:39 pace. As I seem to remember you seem to have problems (mentally) at around 600m in the last few events. If you can get past 600m feeling not to bad, I think you will have it made. You are more than capable of rowing 500m/600m at 1:39 pace and then rowing the next 900m/1000m at 1:37 (as you just did it last night). The last bit 500m/600m you will just have to bring it home as fast as you can. This should get very close or just under 6:30.0

Just treat it as a 500m warm-up at 1:39 then a flying mile (-109m), your mile pace is sub 6:30 if I remember.

Sir Pirate
Cheers for your thoughts sailoe boy ! Yes my mile pace is 1:37.4avg and both of those were done with energy to spare, for some reason the extra 391m messes me up big time .

I hope Andy did not take my comment as if the 1K he did was a warm-up, it was not meant that way.

I meant that if he had done a longer warm-up he would of no doubt gone a bit quicker, so considering the lack of warm up his 1K was very good.

Sir Pirate
My vote for the next challenge is 10x1500, really don't fancy a 10k just yet so will vote for the lesser of the two evils - maybe, maybe not!!
Did a 30 mins yesterday = 8417 @ 22spm, will log this until I do an unrestricted one next week.
When does this particular challenge finish?

Hi Julian, don't put off the 10K I have been waiting for you to attack that distance. I think you could be in for some points on the improvement league with that one.

How is the training going?

Sir Pirate

Andy,
Nice initial 1k there. Going to do your traditional 1500m trial as well?
From what I saw at Southampton, I'd say self belief is what you need to work on.
We all know you're good for sub 6:30 at a comp, you just need to as well .

Thanks guys, target then is Friday next week I will do an unrestricted 30 mins then.

Phil - Starting afresh, did nothing 'til tuesday after my 1k (before Xmas) so now starting an 11 month programme for BIRC and EIRC!! When I have done this before I have managed to knock quite a few secs off my 2k time, hoping for the same this time around.
As only starting back into training don't fancy a 10k yet, I know I will do one and I will PB but I want to get into shape where I can beat Dan Staithe's time!! Hope fully it won't be voted as a challenge for a month or two and then it may be on, we shall see. What's this 120k+ metres? One week?
