While the UK forum's having trouble, anyone else having problems logging metres on the online ranking page. I can't log onto it and may have forgotten/entered incorrectly my password but don't know whether it's just part of the general malaise that is the UK forum.

Mark in the sand for the 30 minute unrestricted. 7721m. Went off a bit quick and nearly gave up on it but laid off for a few hundred and then pulled a little back. Hope I can beat it though. Unlike the rest of you pitbulls straining at your leashes, I do have trouble with these competitive things..... they make me "nervous" or something

Vote for the next challenge - half marathon

lee... thanks for your concern ..unfortunately I dont have access to a bike and in fact am a prisoner in my own home at the moment ..... there are several steps up to Mcnally Towers making life very difficult........ I have been on the rower this am ... with my right foot on a roller skate.... and it seemed to work ....back not sore at all..... Megz is coming over on Tuesday and I will get her to check on my technique to see if I am likely to do any damage or not ....

First off, happy New Year to all of you.

Secondly, apologies for not being able to post a 1k time for the challenge. Combination of a bad cold and travelling to and from in-laws and parents thwarted my best attempts.

Started work on the 30min unrestsricted challenge. My personal aim for this one is to break 8k, because I have never done it before. With this in mind did a warm-up session today:

15min @ 1:52.4
10min @ 1:52.6
5min @ 1:52.3

Aim is to increase the time for the first piece by 5min per session.

Just for Matt N:
My vote is for 10k unrestricted for the next challenge

Carole,

I have a Tunturi exercise bike with magnetic resistance and computer for workouts etc.; the Polar hr chest interface works with it. I'd be more than happy to loan it to until you're able to row again. Let me know because it would be my pleasure; can't have you taking 6 weeks off, whilst we're all training

Hi Matt - I realise that you're devoting your training hours to the ludicrous erg, but here's a thought for you, in the strength training arena. As well as/or instead of the weighted pull-ups, do weighted dips. Since the movement is smaller, and recruits the pecs, delts and triceps, you'll likely as not be able to use more weight than on the pull-ups. I put a dumbbell between my feet, and wait until the swinging stops, and then do sets of 5, explosive upwards movement, slow return to start, good form throughout. Trouble is, heaviest dumbbell at my gym is 35 kg...Do these a couple of times per week for a month, and then give the own-bodyweight dips a go!

Hi Guys,
Just a query about the 10 x 1500 with one minute recovery.
I take it I would set that up on my PM3 as 10 x 1500 with one minute interval and then it's up to me to get started promptly on the one minute? Does that give a total time for the workout or 10 individual times for each interval? I'd try it and see but....... well we're just chatting aren't we? If so, does that work the same way for the PM2?

I guess you would just need to trust people not to cheat on the rests and just take the avg of all 10 reps without the rest time included.

Lee

On the PM3 set it up as a distance interval with 1 min rest. After each one is completed the PM3 displays the number of intervals done. At the end of the session it shows the total time for the workout and the times for each individual interval and yes it is up to you to start as soon as the 1 min rest has counted down as the time for the next interval begins as soon as the rest is finished.

On the PM2 the interval starts when you start to row again, not after rest is counted down.

Hey folks
I like this league. How come I can be so crap and yet end up half way up the table???!!!
Right so its 30 mins unrestricted now . Will have a bash this week sometime as I'm off all week.
I go with Helens suggestion of 10k. No way do I want to do a 2k!!

Now on a more serious note. I have to see a surgeon on 17th to discuss surgery for bilateral carpal tunnels (wrists) Apparently this is common on rowers. Do any of you know how long I would be incapacitated for. And how if at all it would affect future performance. I think it was brought on by water rowing ( I know----thats punishment for flirting on the dark side) and as I havent been on the water because of injury its a lot better at present but I still have muscle wasting at the base of my thumbs and the electo neurological tests still say the nerves are c--p' Will post on US site and see what comes up
Carole
Will pnone you re visit in the week
