Thanks for the encouraging words, guys!
Easy to forget how much energy a hard effort leaches out. Today my legs were shot, up and down stairs a major chore, generally beat. Yet 20:00 after yesterday's piece, I felt I could have gone harder, was ready to go again lol.

Henry, I agree that if 5k is generally about 2k + 6, then I should be nearing sub 6:30 range. Need to do a 2k soon to see where things stand.

Damn Damien, ya gotta brag a little more bro. 3rd place in the standings out of 1364 total world wide! Really nice piece! Looking good for another podium at "B"s this year.

This wasn't a serious attempt, and yet it is an all-time PB for me...1:38.3 for the 500! Haven't worked out in more than 2 weeks due to fatigue and family obligations...Decided to take the machine for a spin just now, see how I was feeling. Strokes felt good so decided to clock a 500m piece just to see...
Mid-30s, 6'0", 230lbs (working on that.......), 6:54.8 2k PB (1:43.7, March 2015). Occasional OTW rower.
Don't believe everything you read on the internet!
Other PBs: 1k @ 1:39.9 (March 2015).

HM PB: 1:17:52.2 - 1:50.7
Third HM ever, and first with a hard goal in mind. Aimed for 1:50 pace - and was on that up to 7k to go. Lots of wobble from there, very nearly HD. Held on through some tough meters - I'm talking dropping from 1:49.9 to 4k worth of splits over 1:53, seeing stars, motivated by the singular notion that I will never do another HM - to a result that's a bit more than 2:00 improvement for a PB.
Hitting goal pace early - actually a bit ahead of it - and holding it was a fail in this case. Back to my negative split approach next time, perhaps in March.

Another nicley done piece landing you 3rd in the heavies, although if I were to nit pick a bit you're only 5th overall combined as you let a couple of skinny-ass LWTs sneak in front of you. I'll give you a pass on Arwed Egger, guys a total stud.

Well Done!

Awesome job, Damien! Very hard to hang in there on a long piece when you go out too aggressively. You showed your toughness to finish so well. Tremendous 5k as well. You are knocking on the door of 6:30. I am looking forward to CT Indoors. - Chris

Feeling pretty great this morning. I did a light 30' row yesterday AM, got home from work and felt good, morning row felt easy, so decided to take a crack at my 2k score which I'd only done a couple of times and never at what I'd consider an all-out race pace. Because I'm still pretty new, trying to get a feel of how fast to pace myself out of the gate, over the middle, etc. As you'll see from my splits below I've still got a little bit of work to do as I burned myself a little bit early.

Overall though, extremely pumped about this PB! A few weeks ago I ran my 2k at 7:43.8

2000m 26spm
7:20.2

1:45.8, 1:51.4, 1:52.9, 1:50.0

Next time I test I think I will shoot for a first 500 of 1:50 even and then try to negative split a little bit from there. When I came off the 1:45 I was really feeling it and by 1300m I wanted to quit but knew that I was going to PR so kept grinding.

Congratulations on a whopping improvement. As you said, it could have been better with better pacing, but what caught my eye was the low stroke rate. Even at your height, 26spm is very low for a 2k. It is my guess that 30spm would give you better results, with maybe a higher rate for the last couple of hundred meters.

Got inspired by my weak effort on the 10K this year and some recent posts and clocked a SB 38:14.8. Started out slow and felt good so went for a solid time, then the last 3K was terrible. Wasn't a good time for a TT but went for it anyway and regretted it. Finding my PB incomprehensible at the moment.

Thanks Bob! I ran the 2k again a couple days ago and improved my time by 4 seconds by tightening up my splits a bit and increasing the rate by 1. Will keep working at it.

After rowing an easy 7500 yesterday at slow pace, I woke up this morning and decided to tackle a 10,000m.

This is the first time I've done this distance, so just tried to shoot for an even 2:00 pace and pick it up a bit at the end. Two pace boats in RowPro, one at exactly 2:00.0 and one at 2:01.0 to keep me on track. I really like the pace boats, for me they create a very enjoyable sense of fun competition and I love seeing myself inch ahead of them when I pick up the wattage or rate briefly.

Comments and feedback welcome of course :)
