No battery there. Make sure the new strap fits properly high up under your pectorals.

QUOTE(busterG @ May 10 2005, 12:51 AM)

I just replaced my chest strap .. now I have the newer polarmate which you can replace the batteries on...

however i'm still getting spotty reception.. sometimes....

the transmitter, velcro'd underneath the rower.. does that have a batttery in it? does that need replacing too?

i have to row shirtless to get good signal transfer from the chest strap to the receiver.
don't know if it is sweat, the cloth itself, or possibly buildup from something in the detergent or wash water.
contact between chest strap and skin is not a problem; works great dry.
ymmv

I had little success with the receiver under the slide with probably less than 5% of the time a value being displayed. I also tried moving the receiver to various positions under the slide. I have since moved the receiver between my feet on top of the slide and now have a value displayed about 95% of the time. I'm only 5'10" so this approach may not work for those fortunate enough to be taller.

I also learned recently that my wife's wireless computer causes significant problems with the receiver and she is upstairs. The display jumps between the low 200s to the teens and then back again. Maybe some kind of shield around the receiver would help. For the time being I also wear my wrist monitor as well.

Do you also have a wrist monitor? If so, does it also have spotty reception?
I have not had any trouble with reception on the C2 with the receiver under the rail, and while wearing a dry, and then sweaty, shirt.

Citroen,
It would be an alumin(i)um foil hat, not too likely to find tin foil nowadays.

David
