I must admit I prefer using a heart rate monitor instead of a pace target for the recovery. Sort of listen to your body and adapt the pace accordingly. Which is better _ wattage, HR or pace ?
The wattage feedback is immediate, whereas there is considerable lag with HR. The lag time seems to increase with age.

When you say wattage, I assume you're talking about a screen setting that shows watts while you can monitor your pace / stroke rate at the same time?? I'll have to look at that option. For me, I did wear a HRM regularly for around 6 years and have a pretty decent idea of when I'm around 145 to 150 (what I personally should be on my recovery rows. Having been a runner for a while (albeit a really cruddy one), I'm used to the effort of recovery runs too.
yes. i have rowpro set up to monitor both the heartrate and wattage. you con configure a band (+/- tolerances) and a quick glance confirms that you are within the pre-ordained limits .
uptill now i was just using my jam tart for the cap. i spose a combination would be possible too

pp w3d3. nice workout and felt pretty good. Was shooting for 2:05 avg per 500m. Love how easy rowpro is to setup for these types of workouts. Starting to feel like I am getting over the hump.
Garmin connect. Have to change the sport to cycling to see all of the graphs

Well, I don't actually have the units mode on the monitor set to watts. I have it on pace. (The spm shows the same either way.) But I have a rough idea of the wattage associated with the pace range I am using, so any change is immediately seen.

W1S3
Endurance intervals
5x1500m/5'R
Pace target 2:09.4 from 7-14-15
Df 109
3970m Fletcher WP
1500m CD
Pace av. 2:08.8
I failed to hit Menu on this one and did a 6th interval as warmdown. Also too far under pace target on #1, ran out of gas in 4. Stupid execution but an improved average pace. I'm taking a break for a couple weeks. CTR and UNR procedure on left wrist and elbow scheduled for next Tues. if all goes well, should be back on the rower by mid-January. Please have the very best holiday season and stay safe. Jack

Thanks Bob / Dean for the responses. I do monitor the pace pretty regularly. I would love to have the RowPro but right now I'm working out in the gym, not at home.
Nice work Dean on the 10K! Very nice time indeed. Getting faster Eric. Nice work Jack on the intervals! I hope your surgery goes very well and you're back at it soon. Keep us all honest while you can't row!
The W2 / D3 4 X 2000 today (second round for me). Was targeting 1:58.0 using last round as my target. Was kind of intimidated by that number. Have to trust the process I suppose I told myself.
1:57.6 / 27 Avg
1:57.8 / 26
1:57.7 / 27
1:57.8 / 27
1:57.1 / 28
Honestly very surprised I hit target. Very little W/U and got interrupted by someone wanting to know the brand of my butt pad 30 seconds before the last interval. Overall, very happy with the result and that I was even slightly faster on the last one.

I can see why that would put one off ones pace....

Textbook run on the 4x2k, Mike. I can't believe the guy asked you about your seating arrangements during the active rest! I've known some pretty fart smellers in my time and most would have had the courtesy to ask only after you'd finished the last interval and keeled over gasping and heaving.

Dub, are you experimenting with the latest pacing theory coming out of Jawja?

Not sure what you mean Jack? OH I GET IT NOW!
No, that would mean that I was man enough to do a 2K just for fun. I am thinking about it though and may see how it feels in the 4 x 1K session. All I am trying to do right now is to man up, get healthier, and get some good workouts under my belt. This has been a frustrating month or so. Doubts are creeping in about whether I still want to do this - work really hard I mean. I need to tighten the screws soon, as I am getting toward 8 weeks out from my event.

Dean is getting really serious on the long hard work now. Sub 38 on a 10k. That´s quite an improvement, very strong piece indeed. Great stuff from the other guys as well.
But particular note is to be taken by the procedures awaiting Jack. You have been improving a lot and contributed tons of sometimes harsh, sometimes thoughtful and sometimes yestful comments on this forum. I wish you all the best and come back soon and healthy. God speed!

If that happened to me, I would figure that being faster on that last one would be a result of having been annoyed by the interruptor. I call it the power of being pissed off and have experienced it under a different set of circumstances.
