Welcome aboard, Gregory. Are you going to do the Virtual Team Challenge in January? How about the monthly C2 Cross Team Challenges? Meter muncher or speed merchant, we need you! Jack

Just before Thanksgiving was a terrible time to post! I haven't had a chance to check back until now, sorry. Thanks for the info. I successfully joined the Forum Flyers 2015 team. I'll be getting back on the erg tonight for the first time in over a year, so we'll see how it goes!

I'm not new to rowing, but I am new to these forums and to joining any kind of rowing group. I went to join the Forum Flyers team on the Logbook site and was presented with four options: Forum Flyers was listed twice, along with Forum Flyers 2011 and Forum Flyers 2015.

Welcome aboard!
You could also look at the monthly challenge called the CTC.
http://www.c2ctc.com
You can sign up for the Flyers and then simply enter as you go - each month is very different and a lot of fun.
December is 8x 750m/1'r which is a bit of a toughy but they are all very different.
It gives you a chance to compare with others on all sorts of things.
Each "boat" for each team has 5 members including a female and a lightweight.

I did my very first interval row yesterday when i took on this months CTC, i managed a 24:34 @ 2:02.8 22spm, i regulary annoy the crap out of Lindsay via email and he suggested to start trying to increase my stroke rate so i took it on again today and managed a 23:01.8 @ 1:55.1 25spm but unlike yesterday i didn't have anything left in the tank at the end of the last interval and fell away slightly on the last two intervals.
So if a few of you blokes are wondering why your boat has slowed that's the reason![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

i have been slowly bringing my times down, i am still trying to find a good balance between the erg and weights but the main criteria for me at the moment is too just get into shape so i am probably over training a little, i have been concentrating on trying to do 10K rows around 21 spm and some days i make it and others i get to 6-7K and that's enough.
It gets very hot where i am and even though the last two days have struggled to get to mid 30's we had two days a few weeks back that were 45/46, i have set the erg right under an air conditioner and i turn it down to 18 celcius and the fan flat out but i still have no trouble breaking into a decent sweat.
My 5K PB is in the 2:03's and my 10K is 2:07, i have been hesitant in doing the challenges but decided to give the CTC a go after Lindsay said something in an email the other day that hit home about there being no pass or fail, just do what you can do and then he gave me a subtle kick up the butt on my stroke rate

Erging in warm conditions is never easy Darren, so good to doing what you do. For training effect it doesn,t matter much if you take short breaks. So if that helps take them, and drink and wipe off a bit.Banjo wrote:

I erg mostly in cooler conditions, but sweat big time beyond 20 min..
The ctc s are good fun, gives you a mothly thing to do and work for a bit. So just do them. Shorter work really needs rating, so yes take that road.
Re: Forum Flyers
Thanks Henry, i will take that on board and not beat myself up on the day's i am struggling.hjs wrote:Erging in warm conditions is never easy Darren, so good to doing what you do. Re: Forum Flyers
Nice to have another noob Darren. I did the last 2 C2C's and will try to throw down for this on at some point in the next week.
I've found a balance with the erg, it involves a 2 on, 1 off, sort of schedule. I say sort of because I sometimes do a bit more, other s a bit less, the main thing is that I row when I feel good rather than when the schedule says I should. At 45, and as someone who's not in great shape, training more frequently caused me to plateau and end up doing what I came to believe was a few weeks of junk miles. The current rotation lets me work harder when I'm on as I'm more recovered. Inch by inch.

yes it's rocks and diamonds for me at the moment that's for sure but that comes with the territory of never having really done any sport that relies heavily on cardio, i just had a totally forgettable session

Once i get some fitness onboard i might be able to gauge how i am feeling a little better than i can now and avoid trainwrecks like today

Re: Forum Flyers
I still got my sights on the lightweights on the C2C
. I just broke 42 min on a 10K in the last few days and looking at your stats you're not far behind. In my mind I think something around 1:50 for the current C2C is possible, but then I pull a couple 750's and my motivation goes out the window. It's a challenging distance to repeat, and repeat. I'll definitely need to be in the right state of mind.
what's the 'diamonds and rocks' statement about? I've never heard the term. It took a dozen takes for me to figure out what how ya goin' meant,
be patient.

Rocks or diamonds ? An old prospecting term, someday's you find only rocks and other days you hit diamonds, my workouts resemble this at the moment, finding mostly rocks at the moment

Joined! Now what do I do? Is there anything specifically that I need to do in order to have my meters count toward the Virtual Team challenge? Also if I want to get in on the February CTC challenge of the month or whatever, do I have to do anything to get set up for that as well?
