As far as the Blondie/Dagwood strip is concerned, these are still the days - every Sunday in the Los Angeles Times and probably on the weekdays as well, but I pick it up only on Sunday. You missed Krazy Kat, the Thimble Theater (Popeye), Mickey Mouse, and the Katzenjammer Kids. Arch was sort of after my time. I have seen that strip, but only on rare occasions.jackarabit wrote:Those were the days, Arch! (I mean Bob.) Yes Jack i try to pick lol, 5 string Scruggs, never played or done anything musical before taking up the banjo and i must say it's been a huge challenge and the banjo seems to spend more time in it's case than out, i tend to struggle focusing on more than one hobby at a time unfortunately.jackarabit wrote:Same bakatcha, Darren! It's like the six day races--ride, eat, sleep, do it again. Say, how'd you pick your handle, Banjo? Are you a picker, tenor player, other? Jack

Re: Forum Flyers
on the CTC forum, what is the significance of the bolded M/F in the gender column?
I initially thought that the bolded M might signify a heavyweight designation, but thought I shouldn't assume this to be true.

m f lightweights.
A boat needs 1 female l of h and one lightweight m, the rest can be everything, often three heavy man though.

Re: Forum Flyers
Thanks HJS,
Looking at the CTC the small m/f aren't bolded so it worked just like I though, but for a slightly different reason
My current team goal as an M is to break past the m's on the team to fully join my weight class... still have some work to do there! Will likely be harder to maintain on the longer pieces though...

Nice goal, but not easy, there are some pretty fast lightweights around. But certainly go for it.left coaster wrote:Thanks HJS,

Re: Forum Flyers
There are 2 light weight fella's ahead of me on the current challenge (Forum Flyers), and they look to be within reach. I expect that a minute or two after I post this one of them will update their distance and crush my optimism.... chuckle.... but for now, that's my aim. I have no hope of catching the top lightweight in the CTC challenge generally.
At any longer distance though I think it will be a while before I can catch the top lightweights of the FF's. Sprints are one thing, anything beyond a few minutes of sustained maximal effort is another entirely

Well done Tim - I should warn you though that the Terry that you have just passed by 3 meters is not only lwt but 71yo!left coaster wrote:There are 2 light weight fella's ahead of me on the current challenge (Forum Flyers), and they look to be within reach. Have to stay ahead of him! That is a good thing about ctc - internal competition.

Actually 4 metres, Lindsay, and almost a full second ahead.

Thanks Jack - I just did that to find out who was reading!jackarabit wrote:Actually 4 metres, Lindsay, and almost a full second ahead.
The other thing is that Tim will do it again faster whereas Terry has probably put away his cue on this one.

A grand job by Tim. Terry is tough as they come I think.

Re: Forum Flyers
Chuckle... doesn't surprise me that he's an older fella. I've never actually trained cardio as a 'stand alone' activity. Even when I was doing martial arts it was a warm up, about 30 minutes of intervals/ring work, then off to some stretching etc. and that was 15 years ago. Aerobic capacity takes a long time to develop. I'm just happy my C5/6 disc is holding up to the intervals! Such a fantastic thing for me. I'm going to keep at it for a couple more months and then take a run at some strength training again. I'm running a couple times a week now as well.
I actually took another run at the C2C this morning before checking the thread. Went out too hard... was pulling about sub 1:44 and felt really good, then came the wall at 10/11 and everything fell apart. Argh... heart rate went way up and just wouldn't come down enough during the rest, on came the central (brain) governor and I was done. Next time I'll hold steady at 1:45.2 and then try some negative splits at the end. This will squeeze me past the last lw FF.
Considering I was basically sedentary 2 months ago, things are progressing well. My gut is finally diminishing enough that I can breath on the catch LOL...
The virtual team/group here has been great. Thanks folks!

Re: Forum Flyers
Hello everyone,
I'm not new to rowing, but I am new to these forums and to joining any kind of rowing group. I went to join the Forum Flyers team on the Logbook site and was presented with four options: Forum Flyers was listed twice, along with Forum Flyers 2011 and Forum Flyers 2015.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Gregory
