In the UK it is the same price as the C2 gates... we pay double for Concept2 stuff over here

I'm hoping they can fix this as it looks like a neat idea.

Hi Cran
What are the prices of the C2 gates vs. the Mk1 in the UK?
Here in the US if you bring your C2 gates to a C2 regatta service they give you new oarlocks for free.
XENO

C2 gates (sculling) are £12 each (including inserts) so £24 a set

the Mk1 gates (direct from Magik Rowing in Oz) are $39 each + $19 postage
which works out at 2 x £16.25 each + £7.91 so £40.41

hmmm.....

Ok, I thought the $39 was for a pair of gates... doh!

Even more reason to stick with the C2 ones until I know they won't snap.

update on RSR:

QUOTE

Dear Neil,
We are really sorry for what happened to you, especially in such chilly
conditions ! We've done intensive testings in the lab and in the water,
using the gates in usual rowing conditions, and no such incident has
happened to us here in Australia. However, our gates have been intentionnaly
designed to be smashed in case of a rough hit, in order to avoid more
material damages or even injuries. We realise now that this scenario is not
appropriate for single or pair crews. We are right now working on
thickening the top scratch, which should also be very useful in countries
where climate is colder than in Australia, as you've noticed yourself.
We can send you right now another pair of scull oarloacks today, as per our
warranty terms, should you wish it, or we can also send you a more thickened
pair one as soon as they have been made.
Please tell me your preference and please be sure that we endeavour to solve
this issue in a very quick and efficient manner.
Best regards,

Louise-Anne Wijas

Magik Rowing

Looks like they are already working on a solution, hopefully the thicker top gates will be ok.

Just curious what's so special about the oar locks... the picture looked kinda complicated to me. My brain can barely figure out what way to twist the normal twisty ones never mind learn how to use a newer and more inovative oar lock...

~Sara

Xeno dude...what's up with the Eldeberries anyhoo?

QUOTE(Xeno @ Feb 15 2005, 01:50 PM)

Hello everyone.

Quick update.

I pulled 6:02 for 2000 meters at the Beach Sprints in Long Beach last month.

A couple of weeks ago we filmed two more indoor rowing workouts. I will let you know when they are ready on www.gorow.com. />
I now sell the MK1 Oarlock for those of you who row on the water.

I am getting nice feedback from indoor rowers who have adopted the Volume 1 and Volume 2 Indoor Rowing Workout DVDs.

I am learning more about Elderberries and their power to keep and make us healthier.

I coached at Marin Rowing Association and was impressed at how many active masters the club has. I also saw a nice camera/TV set up next to a rowing machine. It helps rowers check their form without having to look in a mirror to the side to check their power application. The TV is set in front of the rower.

All my best,
XENO for info call 949-400-7630 or visit www.gorow.com

I have heard of unsubtantiated evidence of anti-inflammatory properties for the flowers.

What are you using them for?

Steve

I've heard of elderberries, and actually take them as elderberry concentrate in this new superfood green powder mix by Enzymatic Therapy. I know they are good for the immune system. I'm just wondering why you have been taking them,in terms of some rowing/athletic benefit-as you had mentioned them in your opening yhread topic statement.

QUOTE(Xeno @ Mar 5 2005, 11:42 PM)

have you heard of elderberries?

Drag reduction in wall-bounded flows can be achieved by transverse motions imposed by passive means, e.g., riblets, or by external forcing, such as wall oscillation or transverse traveling-wave excitation.

Coating the hull in eldeberries has the same effect as riblets. (see slide 19 in the link below)

http://polypedal.berkeley.edu/ib32/Lect ... pdf

I've heard that a combination of Cran berries and other choice fruit juices reduces rigging corrosion due to splashed-up salt water. On Cape Cod some call it the Ocean Spray solution....
