PM5 on Model A

Post by kaforan » November 6th, 2015, 6:38 pm

Has anyone had issues installing a PM5 on a model A? I ordered the set from Concept2 and I couldn't get data on the monitor (stroke rate, 500m pace, etc). I got a complete replacement set and that does not work either. Any suggestions besides trying a 3rd time? I've tried mixing and matching parts and have tried varying the distance between the pickup and the magnet disk as well. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks. I already tried calling but they're closed until Monday. Was hoping to get some advice to see if I can get this working before then. It seems to be pretty straightforward and hard to mess up but I have a hard time thinking I got two bad setups also.

It worked well for me, very easy install. Don't overtighten the nut holding the plastic disk with the magnets on it (it warps if you do). If you have overtightened the disk, just let up on the nut and it should flatten back out. When you spin the wheel, check the distance between the pickup and the disk and adjust if needed. Make sure the pickup and magnets are lined up and not too far or too close. Lined up isn't just the distance - the sensor needs to be same radius out as the magnets it is picking up the signal from.

I found out the reason was the PM5 was not configured for a Model A. It was set up for a C/D. One of C2's technical people walked me through how to change that and it works fine.
