New seat options? Recommendations?

Might have a new seat as a Christmas item if anyone uses one or has an recommendations? Seat comfort is getting better with rows 7k or more but still a little uncomfortable with the stock concept 2 seat. Anyone have any alternatives?

I have an EndureRow. Pricey! Current availability manufacturer site internet, maybe JLRacing, occasionally a few dollars less at ebay but not at current date. The seat is well-constructed, durable, purpose-built as replacement for stock C2 seat, delays the onset of glute discomfort for me. What matters is how it works for you?

A new grey Model C seat is a lot softer than my old black Model C seat, it may be hardening with age or a softer compound or both.

The seat could do with a layer of GEL, this stuff is amazing but the only issue would be the top layer would still need to be waterproof or over time its really going to smell with the amount of sweat pouring over it.

Would be useful if people could post links to alternative offerings.

Instead of replacing the seat with a new one, I would first try something far less expensive. Find the admittedly lousy seat pad that C2 provides and take it to a store that sells foam rubber. Have them sketch the outline of the C2 pad on a piece of one inch thick high density foam rubber and have them cut it to the same size. If you wish, also have them cut out the two approximately 3 1/4 by 1 1/2 inch openings that appear on the C2 seat. I would prefer to leave the pad intact and do that step at a later time only if necessary. You now should have a fairly firm but still well cushioned, long lasting seat pad at a total cost of around $10.00. If this pad doesn't give you adequate relief, then think about spending a lot more money for an EndureRow seat or expensive gel pad. Whatever choice you make, be sure the item can be returned for a full refund in case it doesn't live up to expectations.

By the way, I cover my pad with a washcloth or very small towel. That protects it from whatever nasty effects my rear end might have on the surface of the foam. Just be sure to wash the covering regularly.

I was looking at the endure seat online and it might be a good alternative. It might be a little spendy but over time and the meters put on it probably make it pretty cheap when you factor that in.

I have been rowing a little bit more lately and my butt is starting to get more comfortable on the stock seat. I am going to give it until Christmas to really see if I need one. I have the sore no more pad and it helps a little but not much. Time will tell but thank you all for the suggestions. Maybe even the 1 inch foam with some cutouts will do the trick for longer rows.

115 euros for a seat pad! I guess I will stick with the old pad that I got from C2. I have read complaints about it here, but I have had no problem with it. Can't beat the price, especially one year when they gave a lot of them away free at the WIRC.

Trying the least expensive choices first--the towel, the bubble wrap, and the foam, would probably be the best way to go. If any of them work, the problem is solved at a very low cost. If they don't, then go on to the more expensive options. As for the C2 pad, it received a 22% 5 star rating (excellent) on Amazon and a 39% 1 star rating (poor). Buyer beware.

Take a fair rectangle of wood, set up the assembly to the plate, be careful with alignment. Now, for a first try, just cover the seat with a small amount of polyurethane foam, and cover the foam with some plastic bag. You will do a more advanced seat at the next try.

Wait a couple minutes, then row … a short gentle session, take care of your style.

Now you do have a live cast of your butt. Carefully remove the plastic bag.

Maybe you want to stop here, but why? Shape the wood, scrape the foam, redo. If you dislike the ‘plastic’ looking cover the seat with something else, this will provide more cushioning too. Mine survived 3 months now and looks great.

I re-used a piece of foam packing material that was going in the trash, it had been used to ship printed circuit boards. I cut it to the outline of the seat so it fits perfectly. Cost $0 and less plastic in the waste stream.
