Re: Day 1 of 74-week program Feb 2015 check in

Hello everyone,
Thanks to everyone who has checked in to encourage and to share their own goals. Since I began on 14 November 2014, I have lost 75lbs. I still have a long way to go, but in terms of fitness and overall health, I feel like an entirely different person, quite a feat in a span of only 3 months. I row every day. I only took a day off for Christmas, and I usually row for 45-60 minutes three times per day, at varying intervals. I try to push myself as hard as I can.
Thanks again for all the support!

Weighed in today at 250 lbs. I have not weighed under 300 lbs in 5 years. I started almost 6 months ago at 365lbs. It's all due to the rowing. I row every day and love it. I eat about 2,500 calories per day and never after 7PM. I am still obese, but my doctor said I am very fit(health wise) for my weight and have made such a turn-around that I am like a new person. My end goal is 175 lbs. A year ago I thought I was done for.

This is an amazing accomplishment, regardless of what you achieve next. Stick to your goals and you obviously have a successful plan. Keep reporting in as this will help. Regardless of the support you get from others, you have to feel good about yourself.

I am ashamed to reveal these numbers, but I think making some form of a "public" statement of my goal is an important part of what I am trying to do. I have developed an eating plan with a nutritionist in addition to formulating a 74-week program for Concept2. Losing 180lbs in 18 months sounds impossible, but I am determined to succeed with a healthy and balanced approach. I rowed heavyweight crew in college and am no stranger to the erg, so making the Concept2 the focal point of this regime is comforting. My form is good, but it will be interesting to see my numbers now that I am older, much heavier, and totally out of shape. I have read many of the other posts under this topic and they were very helpful and encouraging.
My story is similar but my numbers vary....I am 6'8. And 425 lbs,,, the broken leg and plate with screws limited my running and walking....
I have found the rowing is helping me walk....I like the 74 week program idea....2-4 lbs a week is reasonable for my size and metabolism...if I eat properly. That will put me at 285.... Then I will need to crack down and burn down the next 74 weeks to ultimate goal of 245

THANKS

One of the memories that has stuck with me most about the concept 2 rower was about a guy from my high school 20+ years ago. Big guy (320+ pounds) who just decided to start rowing at our gym. He would get on the machine at 8:30 at night and they would kick him off at 11:00pm when they closed. He got down to 157 in about 9 months.

This is an extreme and I'm guessing you're workout regime will not be like this but your goal is definitely achievable. Just stick to the plan and you should do great.
Good luck and enjoy the journey.

Thought I would check in with an update. Weighed in today at 208 lbs. Began last November at 365 lbs. I row every day, alternating light and heavy days. I try to really push myself at least three days a week and will do 12 x 500M(for example) in addition to my regular workout. I only eat carbs pre and post my first workout in the morning and drink 2 gallons of water each day.
Diet really hasn't been a challenge. I have found that choosing to love the erg, keeping a detailed journal of times each day, constantly trying to improve form/strength, sticking to a schedule, and getting enough sleep all work in tandem to get results. My end goal is 180 lbs.
Thanks for all the encouragement and good luck to anyone who is on the same path. It really is possible, but it is hard work. In less than a year I have become a totally different person.

Exceptional job! I know you're rowing primarily for health and general fitness. But I am curious to see what kind of times you have (assuming you're tracking PR's). With all of that rowing you must be getting decently fast.

Regardless.....truly well done!
