Well you as any other serious erger know that an erg is not a bench press nor a low row. I've put a filter pad over the air inlet, hoping I'll never have to clean the fan again.
Drag factor is about 75 with damper 10. I can still produce 200W with no mechanical difficulty. It's only question of length and speed off the stretcher, using legs first.
Is there any reason why a clean C2 should have DF over 200?

Well on the 100m and somewhat on the 1min larger drags provide faster splits. I tried the 100m on drag 80 and was not able to pull sub 17 sec. with that setting. With 165 I managed 16 sec. Hardy, it seems every YMCA gym in the U.S. has a four stack cable "jungle." Yet the same folks who think the C2 doesn't "create" enough resistance act like it's some sort of exotic cable row and the proper setup goes begging.

Not a bad idea but probably some thin foam or the fibre filter bag from a vacuum cleaner (not paper way too restrictive) bag if its big enough once cut up may be a better idea.
75 is way too low, 110 to 130 is generally what is required so you currently have too much air restriction in the inlet.
I would suggest that just dusting the fan cage is not enough, it has to be removed and washed in soapy water and hit with compressed air to really clean the holes out. Blocking the air outlet has a similar effect as blocking the inlet, they both lower the Drag Factor.
The Model C due to the cage design would be much easier to fit some sort of filter to, I already have a cardboard "Donut" in mine to set the drag factor at 130 with the damper at 10 so the air enters the housing symmetrically like the Model D. Possibly the "Donut" could go and with the damper on 10, some sort of filter that could be easily removed and washed put in its place and also if your lucky get a similar 130 Drag Factor.

A guy at my gym sets damper to 10, puts kettle bells at the font of the erg, rows 32 strokes per minute and somehow only manages a 2:30 split. I don't think I could possibly row that slow at 32 SPM with the damper so high.
