Great accomplishment Ed on achieving 3 million + meters!
I made it to the top of the incline yesterday morning. 41 minutes still cant seem to break 40 minutes. The 4 mile run back down the mountain adds to the fun, but I'm not use to running so the leggs are feeling it today  Barb I'm sure would love that part of it.
Kona your ride looks like it will be a lot of fun, I remember taking a tour of some of the farms around Brighton years ago, most interesting thing was learning of the use of hail canons to knock hailstones out of the sky before they had a chance to form to a destructive size. best to everyone

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 9.6.15

Post by Kona2 » September 7th, 2015, 10:38 am

I'm just not that fast a rower or a walker or a cyclist. There is nothing quite like getting smacked in the face with that kind of reality when you are on a training ride. A couple of cycling friends were heading out for an "easy" training ride yesterday and invited me to join them. Ok, I'm game. Get to the meeting location, and then I see the bikes and the other riders with their chiseled quads. I was so out of my league! Still, I was there and I was going to ride - I just said "don't wait for me...it will make you crazy." I was dusted in the first ten minutes. They did circle around and check on my progress from time to time, and to make sure that I didn't get lost. I was a bit spent after that 41 mile ride. I did enjoy being out in the Boulder farms areas - lots of organic do-not-spray-these-fields signs, farmstands (good to have a bike rack trunk bag that has a couple of panniers that you can use!), SHEEP, cows and thundering horses.

Doug's Manitou Incline climb is much more awesome. His time puts him ahead of the "average" bear as Yogi would say. When I was looking up Manitou Incline, I spotted this article by one of the sub-20 minute set on how to improve incline times http://gazette.com/a-pro-shares-easy-to ... cle/500025 and thought it an interesting blend of strategy, core training suggestions and even suggested time of day to do these things.

And, in recognition of Doug's adventure, I've added another version to today's stats:

Season meters as of 129/365 = 52,826,973 m

Total meters on the day = 239,438 m

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

1.6 MM Ron
1.35 MM Thor
1.3 MM David A
850 K Rosita
200 K Bernie
41 minute incline climb Doug

Thanks, everyone, for rowing and ski-erging with us!

Clever as always K2! love the Lunie meter incline, and I will refer back to the article next time I do the climb. Looking ahead now to the ftc, hope I can at least keep up with this team.

I agree with all that was said. K2 and Doug great going. I doubt I could do either. Um, at any pace.
Doug I'm sure you will do well in the FTC. That's the great thing about this team. Everyone does great! I suggest you find someone who you think you can keep up with and use that person as a rabbit. I do this and it keeps me in the saddle that much longer. At the same time, don't burn out. Yep, I've done that early on during challenges too. Be sure to plan a day of rest or at least a slow row day placing little stress on the body. There are lots of people here who know more than me that will give better advice to anyone who asks. So if there are any brand new strokers, feel free to ask for help. You will get answers here. If you read the stats you can see there are people of all ages and levels.
I just took a day off today. I was burning out. Yesterday I was working way too hard for the result I got. I looked back at my records and found I rowed 16 days straight. I know better than this.
So, keep your abs tight to support the lower back, relax those shoulders and neck, play with the damper setting to find what works best for you and go.
Have fun and enjoy the health benefits you will get.
Mighty enough Thor. Well, you know, working on it.

I've always been on the slow side myself. Many, many years ago I used to do nordic skiing "Citizens' Races. I did one race and finished in the top ten and felt pretty pleased with myself. A few weeks later I did a race at Burke Mountain, home of a private school that caters to grooming competitive skiers. I finished next to last  Talk about a quick lesson in humility
