Congratulations Ed,3 million meters and a whole lotta season to go! Super job.
As a matter of fact, congratulations to the entire Luna-tic team. Outstanding rowing by everyone, not to jinx us,but it looks like we will easily hit that coveted million meter per member goal that brings joy to Jan 's heart.

Good to hear from you, Jim! And achieving meter millionaire status as a team member average is an awesome goal...still, we do what we can do!

And so began another bunny trail.....
Another episode...
I was delighted to see the Singing Camels...and then I wondered do camels bray? What kind of sound DO camels make anyway? And I was off to another Wiki blog, this one referencing written sound. It appears that camels join hogs and tortoises (really?!) in sound...they all grunt. While I was reading up on written sounds of animals, I discovered that the colorful puffin makes a sound like moo. Of course, I then read that a presumably urban dog woofs or barks, but a cowdog makes a sound called a moof. I think someone's having a bit of fun with the dear reader. But first, a return to the tortoise and a bit of K2 family lore.
My sister Kath has a tortoise she calls Myrtle. Presumably this was a name bestowed before she knew she had a tortoise instead of a turtle. Myrtle was half dollar sized when first found, and has now grown to large hand size. She is particularly fond of hibiscus, and is an adventurous sort of tortoise - often climbing her way from tier to tier in the yard. Thursday, Myrtle was a tortoise on the lam. She had escaped the confines of the yard, and was making tortoise tracks through the neighborhood. My sister put out an APB for Myrtle to the landscaping crew for the development, and a few hours later Myrtle was spotted in one of the desert washes, heading west. Whether Myrtle was out looking for tortoise love (there is a big tortoise in the neighborhood with the nickname of The General), or just displaying a bit of teenage tortoise rebellion we'll never know. Kath has verified that Myrtle does make grunting sounds...that is, when she isn't banging on the slider to say she wants to come in. Tortoises are most unusual pets.

I've been getting some training rides in for the upcoming Pedal the Plains, or what the governor calls "a ride for the rest of us". This ride is designed to showcase where a lot of Colorado's food is produced, history of the area, and takes us down a lot of chip sealed roadways (I just changed out the bike tires on my road bike in hopes of avoiding punctures). Like many other rides, this one gives some grants to communities, particularly to help fund school sports and 4H programs. Each host community will be providing entertainment (I am looking forward to the Top Hogs, aka performing pigs) and food. I hope to be able to upload a couple of photos during the ride (September 18-20). Here's the Top Hogs video....an Orion space engineer by day...a pig trainer by night...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZNd0ILhFY4
Season meters as of 127/365 = 52,267,450 m
Total meters on the day = 850,938 m
MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:
3.0 MM Ed with a full moon to carry him over the 3.0 MM threshold
2,8 MM Walter
2.2 MM Michelle
1.05 MM Tammy
950 K Roger...heading towards the ONE million meter milestone line!
750 K Minnie
550 K Jeff M
Thanks, everyone, for rowing and ski-erging with us! And, enduring the bunny trails!

Another enjoyable post. Thank you.
It's meter time. Wasn't that Miller time when I was a younger lad? Oh how things do change.

Love it!!! Camels are amazing animals... They are plenty full here and some are taken care of better than some of us humans.
Thanks for all the congrats!
Happy rowing,
Ed

My sister-in-law has had a tortoise for about 30 years. It is now about the size of a dinner plate and it, too, likes to escape from the yard and explore the neighborhood. Your sister could have many, MANY more years with Myrtle.
