Congrats well done :D No surprice tough, good idea to build a bigger base. Stay a bit in touch though with speed. Once a week some shorter stuff is enough. And by that I mean sub 2 k speed, short stuff.

Hardy!!!!! B)

Great discipline and a fantastic result!

Good luck with your FM training. Have you looked at the FM training plan on the UK site?

Hardy. Congratulations!! That's roughly 25 seconds below the old number, is it not? Grand result! You certainly hammered this one down until it squealed! A good day in Freiburg. Enjoy!

Off to some large beers and a cigar now B) , good luck to you Glenn, you really have to try the deep-breath-exercise. Don´t overdo it (I stopped after 5-8sec into starting O2-induced-diziness)
Congratulations! Good job!

Please pardon my pickiness, but my inner pedant has a couple of gripes. I had to do a second reading to finally be convinced that it as an honest to goodness 2k TT. Why? You said intervals. I finally realized that you meant splits and that this was not at all an intervals workout.

The other point is that oxygen does not induce dizziness, it is the loss of carbon dioxide from the blood which results in a slight increase in at the blood pH, i.e. it becomes a bit more alkaline. The cigar might have the same effect, but the beers aught to more than counteract it.

Thanks guys.
@ Greg: Thanks for the link for the FM-training, I will look into it.
@ Henry: Will try to keep an eye on the short range stuff, probably by mixing in 500m-interval-sessions once a week and 1min, 500m, 2min and 4min-TTs every once in a while.
@ Bob: Sorry for the confusion, probably it was an adrenaline and lactate induced diziness to confuse splits with intervals, maybe in addition to being not a native English speaker. Thanks for the biological correct explenation for the sensations felt after taking numerous deep breaths on purpose. The cigar was very good and indeed was well countered by several beers....
@ Jack: Previous PB was 7:19.3 from end of May, not really comparable after 2 months of intense training for which I have to thank for yet again Glenn, you and the mates chiming in.

Dude, you have made my life much more difficult now :D How am I supposed to top that? Or even get near it? Maybe everyone will go back to doing what they were doing and I can quietly slink away.

You are ready for a PB at least, Glenn, I am sure of that. You did the same hard training as me with similar results. If you do a PB you are still better by comparison taking into account age and height. You need to find a good day after good rest the day before, a good night´s sleep and a good wake up during several hours of morning (I had the luck to be able to do what I want, since I am enjoying 2 weeks of holidays at my parents). This in addition with plenty of hydration (I drank consciously more than usual yesterday afternoon/evening as well as this morning), plenty carbohydrates yesterday, a proper warm-up and Jacks/Fletchers breath exercise. And good pacing (which is the hardest, I went faster than I wanted to, but by that felt that I was able to utilize the breath exercise perfectly - I think the muscles held up because they were served what they needed).

You bet my man, I'm not going to let this good training slide without getting a decent outcome. Might not do it today though!!

Galeere, i'm not acquainted with the Fletcher breathing exercise despite mentioning that I sometimes use the Eddie Fletcher warmup designed for 2k racing. I have an old PowerBreathe device but don't enjoy using it. I do take 3 or 4 big breaths eight after the sit up and beg. I'll have to search out the Fletcher rec. Thanks. Jack
