I wear a heart rate monitor now. It has 0 impact on how I train since I don't do band training, but it's useful when comparing 2 different performances. If I row a better time at the same heart rate, it's better than if I row a better time at a higher heart rate.

Thanks for sharing your work here Magnus and good luck with your training efforts. Please keep us posted on your 6:30-mission.
I probably did a black hole training today, 10k @22 SPM, started as a UT-piece @ 2:08, finishing @ 40:56 (2:02.8) with a max HR of 161 (which is not an all out effort but got close to it).
Topped that of with a swim of approx. 1.6k in the ocean.
I plan to try for a 2k TT on Wednesday as Glen does. My plan is to try for an avg. of 1:46 for the first 1k and maybe gain the missing seconds on the last 500m. I hope that this might help to lessen the urge of hd in the first half of the exercise.

Ain't pretty I know! I have been wasteful and blotted my copybook! I fully intended a leisurely slide up to 2:10 at 1200 to go and then split negative for 600, 400 and 200. Must have heard that rebel yell or snorted some bleach cause that old Xmas tree on the line was pretty vivid. The whole durn thing was pretty vivid and I didn't have a second's urge to quit! I surely did think to hang on to what I had at 800 to go!! I didn't really know the score until after a 2k paddle. Looks that I've made honest men of Dub and Henry and notice they done the same for me. Thank you both for helping me with this little chore. I'm gonna take this one and move on unless I get real crazy by Saturday? (I should have set 200m splits rather than the default 500.)

Good job Jack, you are among the leaders to master this thing. Looking at your HR-figures there might be more to come on Saturday?!

Good Man Jack! You know you have more to get out of it, but enjoy it and move on! there will always be another one, eh? You waded through lots of less than confident background noise this week by some of us (well, one of us) and nailed it like you knew you would. Great job.

Nice work, Jack!

Quite a spicy first 500!

I imagine that it was fun to carry the lactate fro that through the next 1500 meters.

Thanks Hardy. Thanks Dub. You are both ready. Set the hook and reel it in!

Greg, I deserve to get my knuckles rapped for this fly, dive, and pull up. Strange to say, i never had the sense I was going to seize and crash. i haven't had a shower yet and still don't have the cheese in the quads feeling. i borrowed the safety valve from Edward and backed off (almost more like relaxed) for three or four strokes three times.

i didn't plan this so did a very perfunctory 2k warmup. The thing looks like a bracketed artillery target--craters everywhere, lots of damage and nothing orecisely on the mark. I need a do over in better control but not this week.

I just ranked the 2k. Currently 51st percentile in 60-69 HWT. I skipped over my goal of becoming Average Joe Erger. I am thrilled. :P

Aye, but your "heart" is way above 51 percentile.

You have to keep in mind that the C2 rankings are HEAVILY biased. Most of the people who enter rankings are likely at least somewhat serious about it. The person who goes to the gym and rows once a week w/ a crappy time isn't going to be included in that list.

True, but on the other end, most otw rowers, who ate the fastest don,t bother to post there times. Most top times are also never ranked.

Yeah, but that's a small minority. Fat people are the majority (sadly). Then again, you don't really want to be comparing yourself against those people anyway

Not really small. At our Nat. Champ. Ships I never pull among the top 100 2k, but that time is often ranked high in the top ten.

No point at looking at non actives who easily outeat you.
