Magnus, at least your anxiety was only one day. I am getting tired of laying awake at night counting strokes in my head and doing math related to splits! 'Ive probably rowed 10 2K's worth of stressing out over it. I determined BTW, prior to your admission actually, that the wife needed to be in the room to induce / monitor my courage.

That Magnus would be good for well below sub 7 was to be expected, but he bested the expectations nonetheless. Nice strong last 500m too.

Hmm, I think I got him on the speed pyramid by .3 seconds / 500, although he probably wasn't laying on the floor afterwards.
He smoked me on the 4 X 2 K by 2.7 sec / 500.
He got me on the 5 X 1500 by .7 seconds.
He got me on the 4 X 1 K (my old one) by 1 second / 500 (although I had a hiccup at the end, but lets say I would have at least equaled it this time).
He killed me on the 8 X 500 by 3 seconds /500.

So what does it all mean? How much slower will I be than 1:43.1?

I think 2-3 seconds per 500 is about right if things go well. So 1:45 - 1:46 it sounds like.

Glenn, it seems to me that there is a short-time form element. Some days it seems easier than others. Hopefully we hit the right day when we do our 2k.

July C2CTC
1500 w/dn
2:07.5 av.

Got bored icing my paw and flexing my fingers. Found out today that the aluminum splint in the wrist brace pads the palm adjacent to root of fingers just enuf to limit discomfort so I programmed in the Scorpion. I remember what Hardy told me earlier about front-loading just a bit. DanielJ over on the training today thread said we should blow off the 100m interval. I decided to make hay while the glycogen sun shone and trust that I'm better at hanging on to my meager early winnings than trying to play the makeup (negative split) game. O heresy, thy name is Jack!

I did it right after dinner, no HR monitor, no headband, no water, no warmup. Left foot lifted out of the heel cup in the 500m. I put it back in while stroking. Tried to keep the strokes long, all legs and back, and not rating up early. I'm the second slowest male time in the CTC, the boat I'm in will never get its riggers off the dock and I'm as pleased as if I won something.

Congrats Jack, you made it.
I tried the Scorpion today and failed yet again. After 2k w/u I went
500 - 1:37.9
400 - 1:37.7
300 - 1:37.6
200- 1:37.2
100-1:42.5 (I figured that I use the 100 as additional rest rather than burning off what´s left) but then
another 1m Rest and then another 100 appeared on my screen. Blew the set up :x .Went
100 - 1:40.5
Then the 2k came up I went 500m @ 1:50ish but didn´t have the mental power to pull through after the set up desaster. So no ctc-result this month. I will have to talk to myself about this and hope for a little reconciliation during holidays.
Did a 5k c/d (well more at UT2 but still considerably easier than the above).

you realy going hard on the 500-200, maybe slow down to have more power left for the 2k?, my experience is that i can calm down on the sprints and lose some seconds, then on 2k i can take them back, keep going!

The ctc can be done around 2k pace. This would a 100% row.
You rowed the first 1500 around 1.38 pace, don if you would have done the last 2 at 150/51 you still would come in around 1.45 ish..
You only needed 5 more minutes..... A max row is always hard. Every ctc I have done over the years, I am over 100 of them ! I do have hd feelings. This one again. Erging is brutal, it is never easy...

Maybe I didn't mean "frontload" quite so much! I am amazed that you could blow off the 100 and then another appears, Hardy. That would mess me up as I get discombobulated when I set intervals wrong. I don't HD often. I have failures of nerve, sinew, preparation, understanding, strategy, concentration, and luck. HD rewards all these misfortunes with cessation of activity. The monkey grows fat on that! Jack

Thanks for your input Magnus, Henry and Jack. I blew up twice for this exercise. The first time I went even faster on the first half doing the 500-100m. That´s why I came up with the idea to back down a little especially on the last 100m. I might have pulled through the last 1.500m if it would have been for a credible result. But then I might not have, since times under 1:40 do instill much more fatigue and subsequent pain in the muscles (especially legs) than times above that figure. I am able to row sub 1:40 for distances below 500m, probably even do that 3 or 4 times in a 4-interval piece (each time knowing that it´s over soon) but I am obviously beyond myself when I try to pull a longer piece after intense sprints.
Now that I know of my deficits I might try to train for that, go for waterfalls and redo the Scorpion until I am either trained or slow enough to make it.

Nothing to train for especially, no session is like this. A 2 k after some pretty fast shorter work simply bites. For the ctc it pays of to look at people around you in other ctc to to give you an idea for pacing. Still think you could have it off. I felt like hd down from 600 meter to the last minute. most often I pull through but sometimes, the handke goes down.

I once hd on a 5 k with 4300 meter in......
