I'm hoping to purchase a 1x for myself sometime next year and was curious what everyone thinks is the best value on the market? I'm looking for a shell for high-octane racing.

Heather Johnson
F20 158lbs 5'7"
2k 7:32.2 20min 5057 30min 7481

well, if you are looking to purchase new, the shell that I have heard the most praise of would have to be the VanDusen Advantage, this of course is 8500 US base price. That's kinda expensive. Depending upon your budget, check Row2K.com classifieds - they often have very good deals on used boats. Also, call manufacturers. they often have trade-ins or national team boats that they are looking to get rid of.

All that said, just row them. some will feel better to you than others, you eventually settle on one that you like. I personally fell in in love with my friend's mid-1990's VanDusen. It's not an advantage, but it's still fast.

I dont where you are located but in my opinion George Sharrow from florida gives you the most bang for your buck. His boats are usualy about 27lb all carbon fiber. He builds 1 at a time so if you want one for the spring you should order soon.I bought one 2 yrs ago. His # is 772-283-6979. good luck

I know that there's a brand, Peinert. I don't know if they make racing singles or just training racing singles. I do know that they're reasonably priced... cheaper than Resolutes or Van Dusens.

You could google Peinert boats and probably find their website

Hope that helps
~Sara

I'm very happy with my Filippi, which cost me about 3000 US 3-4 years ago. All carbon. I'm nowhere near as good as the boat.

There's a dealer in Boston.
http://www.filippiboats.it/eng/index.htm

I've been racing the 1x for over a year now, love it to death, just tired of using the mediocre club boat, it's kinda squishy and doesn't fit real great. I was talking to some of the coaches down here (FL) and one of them swears that Hudson's are the best thing since sliced bread. Another coach says he's not real fond of the Hudsons, but he really likes his Wintech. The Wintechs caught my eye because they're so much cheaper than everything else(they're only $3975), I tried rowing his boat one day and had a blast.
I'm curious if anyone else has had any kind of encounter/experience positive or negative with these.

Heather Johnson
F20 158lbs 5'7"
2k 7:32.2 20min 5057 30min 7481

Hudsons are very nice boats. We have several in our boathouse including a club double. Unfortunately they just don't seem to hold up as well as some other boats. I know several people who have had to send their singles back for repairs. Fortunately Hudson customer service is excellent.

Empacher and Van Dusen IMO are the best. They are bullet proof and will last a long time. They also cost a lot. I searched for awhile and finally found a used Van Dusen Advantage. It's been super.

-Don

Hi
Kaschper Brand has three series.
The prices are competitive and I very much enjoy their quality, their run, and how comfortable I sit in the cockpit.
XENO
