With names like magnetron and cathode ray, some microwave parts sound like something out of the science fiction genre. And, like most of life, and especially science fiction, there can be a dark side. Yes, the Darth Vader of the microwave kept my cup of coffee hostage yesterday as the door latch refused to open. By the time I pried the control panel open, I was thoroughly awake and didn't really need any additional coffee...but I did need a new microwave. That's when I discovered that magnetrons and cathode ray tubes lurked within and for disposal needed a Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHARM) ...which fortunately nearby Boulder has. Check your local listings and see if you have such a facility near your location - they are fascinating kinds of places, and could possibly serve as a set for a sci fi movie themselves!

Season meters as of 89 of 365 = 32,477,845 m

Total meters on the day = 284,715 m

bg - tell us about the ultra ! Is this the new race for you or a once and done or ???[/quote]

here are some random thoughts i sent off to a running friend ....hope it makes sense...and yes i was running again on monday...a 5k with homemade waffles and a great t shirt :}-

it was the good the bad and the ugly…..and it couldn’t have been too ugly because i can’t wait to do it again:]

and hopefully this will all make sense…i slept till 4:00 am…late for me on friday and ultra didn’t start till 9:00pm...

very well organized and lots of support and since it was put on by my running club, i got so much encouragement no matter what hour…..

my garmins didn’t keep correct mileage so i’m shaky on some of the details…..

went well for the first 9/10 hours…oh it’s a loop course, a little over a 5k to the start/finish line…when i did go through at about 5:30/6:00 am with apologizes to gene kelly, debbie reynolds and donald o’connor, i did greet folks by singing-good morning….good morning i’ve/we’ve been running/up the whole night through….good morning…good morning to you and you and you :}

then sometime afterwards i felt like i needed to walk a little….i just couldn’t get my legs to start running again….tried using one of those stick messagers, but bending over to use it hurt….it hurt to sit down to use the port-a-potty and i needed to brace on something to stand up….speaking of the potties, i had a hotel room close by….another story…..and during my last loops i took the extra time to use the toilet in my room…nothing like a real toilet with real soap and water :}

but i continued on…walking the rest of the ultra...one of my goals was to last as close to 24 hours as possible….i kept getting s….l….o…w…..e….r, so slow that at 22 1/2 hours in, i wouldn’t have made it back to the finish line in time, so that’s when i stopped…a really good friend was there as a volunteer and was going to drive me home….since there were enough volunteers, she drove me to the hotel so i could shower…that felt soon good... and then take me home….

learned a lot and can’t wait to use my new knowledge when i can run again :}

and i can walk up an down stairs today alternating my feet…even modified a spin class…it felt so good to move my legs on the bike :}

got to chat with a lot of folks…one woman who had to drop out cause of digestive problems…she’s gone through a lot of what i have except she had crohn’s…as much as i don’t wish this on anyone, it’s good to know it’s not just me whom surgery didn’t magically fix like so many, including a doctor, said it would…don’t get me wrong….my life is so much better post surgeries, but it will never be ’normal’…. whatever that is…..

and a fellow, whom i finally placed as someone i met two years ago at the 26x1 mile relay when we talked about trail running/races….we first started talking cause we were set up next to each other and he was saying to someone else that he wasn’t running because he was injured, but was there to support teammates….so i asked him about his injury and we ended up trading stuff…i now have an untapped to try and he has a gin gin….

and everyone on the course cheers everyone else on…..

and the weather would have been great if i had been able to run more…but the clouds and wind off the lake made it chilly for walking…..my cheepo rain poncho came in really handy….

adding on- not sure if being on antibiotics for an infected bee sting effected anything….and may have had gastritis or could it have been nerves…doing different things to my digestive system….

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 7.30.15

Post by Kona2 » July 30th, 2015, 11:33 pm

All this time, I'm sure we thought bg was short for barbara g....now, I'm pretty sure it's stands for Beastie Girl....

Yep, squeaking this stat report in under the midnight wire! Thanks, Ron, for the reminder that tomorrow is a Blue Moon....we all know what that means....a Lunie Challenge! Let's use the December 31 version....no half moon required for this (but nothing holding you back either!)...just two sets of 5K each. Quite optional.....
