Thor MW wrote:Hi amazing team dudes and dudettes. I posted previously of some of the problems I was having with running the phone on the PM4. Since you need a cord to connect the phone to the PM4, you can’t charge the phone while you crank up the meters. I have been using a PM5 this last week and I have to say I am liking the way it works with the phone. It is Bluetooth so I no longer need a cord to connect. This means I can leave the phone plugged in to a battery or to the wall for power. My HR belt works fine.
About the only down side is the cradle I bought with my PM4 doesn’t fit on the PM5. Some tape would take care of that. Not an issue for me here as I have a little table beside me that holds my phone close enough I don’t even need to use an extension cord for my headphones. When I get my old grey machine back I will think about upgrading to the PM5. I know Janice has had some problems using the USB stick on the PM5 but thus far I’ve had no issues with the Bluetooth. She got some rather strange error messages. Don’t ask, I can’t remember any of them. Grin.
The mighty Thor is swinging a somewhat larger hammer now. I should be back to my usual soon. It really doesn’t take all that long to get back where you were. Rest easy Jim and anyone else who is forced off the erg for a while. We’ll keep your seats warm and all will be fine.
Happy meters all
I found one other issue. I don’t know if it’s a problem yet or not. It appears that when the Bluetooth is on, it drains the batteries which are not rechargeable like they are on the PM4. I don’t know if the PM5 ever shuts off when the Bluetooth is on. So we need more batteries and I have to learn the key sequence to activate and deactivate the Bluetooth. Hence the possible problem. I couldn’t find anything about this in the PM5 info online.
Thanks Ron. The silver hammer might be a lot of fun though. Grin.

Sam,Bobbie' s dad, has started losing his hair so I just came home from shaving his head and feeding him.I have been teasing him that if 64 years of marriage to Bobbie' s mom didn't cause hair loss, chemo didn't have a chance.

Another episode....
I've been to quite a few bicycle museums and displays at museums, but I had never seen a side by side tandem...with a seat for a chaperone. This thing is called the Sociable Tandem, and was built somewhere around 1908 according to its owners. You will note that it has three seats...the side by sides for the "courting" pair, and the backwards facing seat for the chaperone. This was on display at Grand Lake this past weekend.
(rats...my shadow got into this one!) Still, you might want to read what the couple who own it had to say...

K2, great moose shot! I've been on the lookout for one over about fifteen years of camping and hiking in Maine but have never seen one.
Thanks, too, for sharing the sociable tandem. I didn't even realize there were side-by-side tandems, which would eliminate the need for "are you pedaling back there?!?!"

Welcome back to Marie B - always good to see a returning teammate!
I have happened upon a moose or two while hiking in the Grand Lake area, and it is always best when you are at least 50 yards from them when you see them. They are huge, and they don't see well. When startled, they charge and stomp. Some of you may remember me posting a photo of a snowshoe trail sign with trail names like Moose Stomp Trail....With all the beetle kill, there aren't as many trees to hide behind and hope they don't see you. That photo was taken from about 70 yards away...thanks to a telephoto lens!

Ok, I finally found something online. I do not have to deactivate the wireless ... I think. I can force the PM5 to shut off by hitting the menu button 4 times. This I can handle. Grin. We'll have to wait and see if this saves the batteries and if it starts up normally the next time I saddle up.
That side by side tandem bike sounds very interesting. I had a "normal" one for many years we used it a lot. In fact while waiting for a light to change a police car pulled up beside me and informed me that doubling was against the law. I pointed out that there were two seats and so on. he drove off. I sure loved that bike. It took dad a while to find it too. They weren't around much in the mid 70s. Boy, the stunts me and my buddies did on that thing were crazy. haha
Have fun all

Wow, another memory test for us old geezers. Nice one. I actually heard a talk by the guy who supplied Kubrick with that little soundbite, and the techie justification for its choice.

Going back to Maxwell Edison, majoring in medicine, for a moment...
I looked up the lyrics, and was surprised by a difference from what I always thought I heard.
I always thought it was "Joan was quizzical, studied 'bout the physical science in the home...", but it is not 'bout the physical, it's pataphysical. I read that and wondered what the heck was pataphysics, was it the Beatles just making up a word. No it's a real thing. And the Wikipedia page on it was almost kind of funny - maybe a little too funny. Waiting for someone to shout April Fools.
