Good stuff Magnus. And a great week for that matter! While the rest of us were moaning, you went out and blasted three great sessions. I am not seeing the great work that you mentioned Hardy doing this morning.

400m into the fourth going at an avg. of 1:50ish I started to loose power again; fortunately my wife came in and provided the reason by saying: "What are you doing, there is no air in here". What a dumb ass I have been, using up the O2 and transforming it to CO2 while going at HRs > 160......
So I stopped after 500m, kept the door open (which I normally close so I don´t wake up anybody) and opened a window next to that door, felt some fresh air pouring in, started again after 3 extra minutes of rest (which I hope will be found eligible after the extra 500m) and went
2k @ 1:51.7, maxed HR @ 171
SPM was mostly @ 30 (29 on the third interval)
1,3k of paddling, no c/d as family was waiting with breakfast
So there is one happy camper to be found here today.....
Ahh, I see it now. Well done for sure. I hate to think what you are going to do with oxygen! Aren't wife's the best! Always looking out for us.

Cycle 2 week 2: 4 x 2K

Cycle 1 average: 156.1
Cycle 2 average: 1:54.5
Improvement of 1.6 seconds

1: 1:55.0
2: 154.6
3: 154.6
4: 1:53.8 (HR 188 - 6 below max)
Average: 1:54.5 SPM 27 DF 105 (I seem to do OK with lower DF)

Not Magnus or Hardy times, but it will do for G-Dub.

Excellent Magnus + Glenn, you are doing some hard work that will be paying off on our 2k-TT.
I contemplated what to do the next days and came up with the following:
Sunday 60min. UT1/UT2
Monday ctc Scorpion (as some sort of substitue for the sprint session because I was not able to finish that challenge yet)
Tuesday recovery session
Wednesday/Thursday tapering up with or without very slow work
Friday 2k TT
Saturday driving into the Sunset (holidays..... B) )
Sunday checking out where the next Concept2 is available :P

Sounds like a plan Hardy. Since I'd am not going on vacation, I'm going to finish out week 3 like its drawn up and then consider a 2K or a mile test during week 4. Then I'm going to start another cycle I think after week 4. I figure 12 weeks would be a good number for now.

All right. That will put our plans out of synch but if I find a Concept2 I can do week 3 in your week 4 and we then might be able start cycle three at the same time.

Oh, I didn't know you were going for a third! We will figure it out. I wouldn't mind a rehab day or two - I've got a little runners knee going on. So I'll follow your plan and then see where it goes from there.

I don´t know if I am able to find a Concept2 at my holiday resort (which will be at my parents/grand parents to my kids B). Too many unknows, so you better go ahead with your plan. If everything works out we will be back in synch after 10 days time.

Tell you what, tell me which day you will be back home and in the saddle and we'll start round 3 then. I will give you a pass on the waterfall. I will keep myself busy in the mean time - probably do workouts from the last couple of weeks of the Interactive Plan and I'll throw a test in there somewhere. And if I am smart I will let this little knee bother subside too.

All right then. I will do the work for this the week as outlined above (and tell about it, the 2k TT especially :) ). Once I am at my parents I will look for a c2. The scenario I am hoping for is a temporary ticket at a local gym which I hope will be granted (many gyms are reluctant to do so, so I will have to see).

I have some swelling in my left hand (possible sprain), but if possible will jump back in tomorrow 26 July on week 2 which you just completed. Rowing camp not for sissies! Although I was in the best shape of any of the attendees and could do the most laps of the lake in 1.5-2 hrs., I was not very smart about breaking in my hands and am paying the price. Gel packs and antihistamines will have to keep it under control until pill pusher apptmt. Tues next. Jack

So you showed them how tough an erger is. Good job. Let it heal and get better soon Jack!

Impressive, since you said that the age range was from 17 to 68. At 67, it seems likely that you were the next to oldest there. Evidently your solid erg work over the last few months paid off. That is the one certain thing that erging does that helps an OTW rower. The blister problem is one case of the other side of the coin, the various aspects of OTW rowing for which erging provides little or no training.

Why is OTW rowing so much harder on the hands?

Aren't the handles of the oars designed so that they wouldn't chafe up your hands too badly?

One thing you can always do is tape up your hands w/ athletic tape.
