I did row on the Fluid rowing machine yesterday, and it was very different. The damper settings go from like one to 20 or so, and I had to figure out how to get to what I thought was the right amount of watts and split time to match what I thought I could do with a Concept2. I love lower altitude, because I get by far my best rowing times here...to the tune of several minutes improvement per 5K. Of course, when I got off the rowing machine I was kind of rubber legged after pushing so hard. There is a belt drive instead of a chain, and instead of the chain whirring away and the fan whooshing....you get the slosh of water. Better make a pit stop before you start rowing on one of these Fluid rowers or the power of suggestion may get to you! Everything about the machine felt not right - I didn't feel like I was working as hard because I couldn't hear the increased chain, etc., noise. Meanwhile, I was rowing splits that were 35 seconds faster than my usual. I had to take a cool down walk around the track after I finished. It was an interesting experience, but I like my Concept2 MUCH better. Concept2 feels solid - these Fluid things give the impression that you are disassociated from the machine. I could see how they say it mimics on the water rowing. Just my nickel's worth.bg wrote:
k2 ...have you been able to row on the new machine??? and once again, thanks for everything....

Great news about your Mom Kona There is definitely something magical about hearing that word "benign". Because of family history Lyn has a higher risk of developing melanoma and goes for an exam once a year. So far any areas of skin biopsied have been benign

Yes, we adopted another dog. Frosty is a small poodle mix. He was picked up as a stray in SC-another SC dog for us. There is a little bit of sibling rivalry, but they get along OK. The funny thing is that the bigger dog, Rocky, is afraid of almost everything and the little peanut is not afraid of anything. One of the first things Frosty did when we brought him home was to go after our neighbor's horse Gee 13 llbs vs ?????Kona2 wrote:Dogs ... as in plural? You have another new one? Yeah, the primitive behavior is lots of fun, especially at about 11 PM

Just a reminder that today starts the Summer Sprints Challenge...get those special rowing or ski-erging sessions done between now and the 19th! Sort of an eye-opener, eh? (Talking Canadian)
Another Episode....
I shared that I was taking advantage of a nearby rec center to get in some "active" minutes while away from my rowing machine. There's a roundabout at the entrance to the rec center, and standing in the middle of it is a bronze of a fairly short woman who is holding a woven basket up. At her feet are some odd things and you can read about it by following this link. I did not know that this was called a waymarking statue...or that the Smithsonian catalogues waymarks. Interesting stuff you find when you go up to see what a statue is all about. This is how I get myself pulled into bunny trails.
