hi, im 21 male and got a concept 2 d 3 days ago. im new to the game. everytime i go on it i seem to get really bad bum ache. this occurs after about 1500m. but the moment i stand up its gone. my dad can go on it and his bum is fine. we have one of those padded seats too. any ideas whats up with me?

also, all i have done on the machine so far is 3 lots of 5000m. yesterday i did it in 19.40 and today i did it in 18.50. what i wanna know is how u guys do it so much quicker? because i can do 1k in 3.09 and i have seen some of the other peoples 1k and mine is slightly better, but their 5ks are a million times better than mine. i have only had it for 3 days so i guess its a matter of time (well thats what im saying to myself). im not a serious rower and im only doing it to stay fit as i play rugby (from time to time!)

thanks guys, but get back to me about this bum issue as i would quite like to row some longer distances!!!

Well you have only been rowing for 3 days, so yeah, your bum is going to hurt. At least some of that is just getting used to the rower, but no matter how much you row, your bum will hurt if you row long enough I would think.

For just starting, you seem plenty fast to me. Remember some of the people here are world record holders. Without knowing more, you seem like a big strong guy with plenty of natural power and speed. But I am going to guess you could improve your technique. If you see the poll on strapless rowing, give that a try. Don't be surprised if you fall off the back of the erg, which suggests you are leaning too far back at the finish and not staying in balance. If you can row a 5k hard strapless, I would think you are doing pretty well.
