Does make you think when you see a list like that how big the Empire was. Currently there are (I think) 57 countries in the commonwealth (read Empire)making up 30% of the global population.. Still impressive.. IMHO..

I know, I know . . . used to be the sun never set on the empire. Now, some days, the sun barely shines on the gray land. Looks like the real talent went to Australia: 1/3 the population of GB and almost twice the medals. Tom Rawls

How many did Phelps get.. 8? 5 Gold 3 others? What about Thorpe or some of the other Australian swimmers? 20 Medals from the pool alone.. This is still a fantastic achievement, but some dominated sports can skew the table a little... For example, if Darts & Snooker were included, then I'm sure the table would tilt towards GB somewhat...

American Football, now there’s a game, a very long drawn out “men wearing so much padding that they can hardly move around the field type game” The average length of a “quick” game of American football seems to be around the 15 hour mark. We have rugby over here, same sort of thing as your football, but these guys are TOUGH, they don’t like all that padding your boys wear. Now, Baseball is a great game, I am liking that a lot. Oh, I would not call golf a “sport” it’s more of a long walk with a stick Sir Pirate

In the Ryder Cup, it isn't the Yanks against the Brits. All the European nations gang up against the US in this sporting event. No wonder we got clobbered! Also, you can't expect Yankee professional golfers to play well in the Ryder cup when they aren't getting paid. Thier mind just isn't into it. Playing for nothing in an event that reaps millions of dollars and pounds, just isn't in our blood. Cheers, Paul Flack
