These days a lot of calcium supplements come combined with vitamin D for just this reason. No harm in taking them together.

I'm curious, since the U.S. has one of the highest rates of osteoporosis in the world, how do you know there is no harm that comes from taking calcium tablets and all the other pills of various sorts.

I suppose it would be true if all of a sudden there was no more osteoporosis in the U.S., as result of all the medical advice, but to the contrary it doesn't seem to be making the situation any better.

Stop eating animal protein that, due to it's acidity, pulls calcium from the bones and may be the primary cause of osteoporosis;
Could you provide a source to support the truth of this assertion?

I'd like a source for this because I can't confirm it. I do see data that anticipates high rates in Asia because of the increasing aging of the population. And it is certainly true that the US population is older than that in, say, Nigeria.

What do you expect from those nutty MDs, with their wacky advice for preventing osteoporosis. "Eat better!" they say. "Exercise more!" Who's going to heed that load of claptrap? Not the aging, curve-wrecking boomers, apparently.

I just now plugged "animal protein", acidity, calcium, and neutralize, minus the words medical or doctor, into google and came up with the following links at the top.

The concern of the typical medical is drugs, not exercise or good eating habits. Take a look at the food served in most hospitals, where their standard of care is the highest.

A man I talked to a few years ago said he was taking 13 medications prescribed by his medical, and he had no clue what they were. His wife said oh that's nothing she was taking 19 medications and also had no clue what they were. Her diet was horrenduous, and she died a few months after that.

This is the typical medical advice that people are given in this country, for example through all the medical ads on tv.

In my opinion the best thing people can do to be healthy is avoid them.

Of all the reasoned, legitimate examples you could cite of glaring flaws in mainstream medicine, that's what you came up with? Read it again, and see if you can't find six reasons it's a non-starter. Like any large, diverse group, MDs, PAs, & NPs have their share of honest-to-god quacks and single-issue cranks. (Much like this forum.) Factor big pharma and insurance into the healthcare mix, and you have a system in serious need of fundamental changes. But your "medical quack" bashing sounds more than a little unhinged.

But back to the topic at hand. Here's an exerpt on preventing osteoporosis from those total boneheads at the NIH, including a quote from Dr. Joan McGowan, quack director of the Musculoskeletal Diseases Branch of NIH’s National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS):
nih.gov wrote:Myth: You can’t get all the calcium you need from food.
On the contrary, Dr. McGowan says it is best to get your daily amounts of calcium from food whenever possible. "You won’t have to worry about getting enough calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K," she explains, "if you eat a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables — especially leafy green ones — grains, protein, and low-fat dairy products."

...

Final Advice
Dr. McGowan has one last recommendation: Do regular weight-bearing exercise, such as walking, jogging, stair-climbing, tennis, weight-training and dancing. These activities may not only help strengthen your bones; they can build muscle and help with your balance, reducing your risk of falling.
Like I said, nutty MDs and their wacky advice.

Kind of obvious isn't it? Anyway I just now plugged "animal protein", acidity, calcium, and neutralize, minus the words medical or doctor, into google and came up with the following links at the top.

I don't know why you think it would be obvious. In any case you confirm my suspicions; i.e., your proferred sources are pulled randomly from the Internet, the first two from commercial health food sites and the last from an article in a non-medical muckraking magazine, the article's author a "professional health journalist," in fact a freelance writer who lists in his bio no scientific or medical credentials (although he says "he enjoys music (rock, jazz, blues), yoga, downhill skiing, and figure skating").

John Rupp:
And then you'd have your desired outcome, i.e. osteoporosis, from taking their "medical quack" advice.
You're saying that the advice of a medical professional is a cause of osteoporosis. Perhaps you'll point me to the Internet sites that confirm this?

You mean like the NIH site, which says "Eat your green leafy vegetables and get off the couch"? Those bastards.

Do you think Dr. McGowan's a bastard, by association? I'm assuming you agree with her advice ("Eat green leafy vegetables and do weight-bearing exercise"). Do you suppose she's the only MD who's dispensing such advice? Think she's managed to keep her views secret from the NIH? If so, oooh boy she's gonna be in trouble when they read their own website.
