As part of the March Madness online challenge, I'm planning on rowing 10K meters every day in March. Is anyone else planning to do the same? Or 5K?

Note that I don't mean averaging 10K per day over the month, but actually rowing 10K or more on each of the 31 days of March.

Enjoy the water.

I'm good for at least 5k each day.

I have tried for the past couple of years, but haven't made it. For some reason things come up. I find it harder than the holiday challenge. But I will try again to row 25 days this month. Good luck.

You need to take a day off one day a week. If you don't do that you could end up overtraining.

I take a day off from rowing by cycling on a Sunday.

I'm aiming for 10.6K per day average as I need to do that to reach 3,000,000 for the 2005/2006 season. But that will be done by rowing 15K some days, 25K occasionally, rowing HMs other days but also doing some days with just short normal intervals, a pyramid or the Rugby Test intervals. I'm even planning to do another FM before the 2005/6 season is finished.

I'm going to go for 310K for the month, but there will be days I take off, so the trick will be to sprinkle 6 off days to do the 310K in 25 sessions.

I'm even planning to do another FM before the 2005/6 season is finished.

Agreed -- people who are looking for the most effective way to train should definitely be looking elsewhere. Any program of doing the same distance every day, or even most days, is going to be less than 100% effective. Look at any of the training programs people promote and there are some long slow days, some short intense days, and some long intense days. Probably not many short slow days

And of course rest is a good thing. "One day a week" seems a bit simplistic. As most programs do, there should be some easier days, some harder days.

All of which probably summarizes as: I'm not training, so it doesn't matter much. :D

But seriously, 10K isn't that hard if you take it easy -- my best time is 42 minutes, so if I do 10K in about an hour, I'm barely breaking a sweat. I think that counts as a rest day in most people's book.

I must admit I generally skip the rest day as I rarely push that hard (CTC excepted) Its all about general fitness and weightloss for me, and it's working since december I've lost about 4KG and my resting heart rate has come down from 75 to 65

So in answer to the original poster, I will be averaging 11.8K per day not sure if I'll match this every day - we'll see

Brendin

(I've been skipping the intervals recently - because I hate them.)

This month we have to fit in a Rugby test for the CTC challenge for http://c2ctc.com so I'll do that instead of a set of stock intervals.
I'll do two 10Ks today to make up for it.

HI!
I just came across this thread. I have done 10+ K for 11 days straight now! I'll join you in the 31!
Hope your son is doing OK. I'm not a legalist, that is something out of your control!

Glad you are here. I almost skipped today until I saw your thread. I too am working on fitness and weight loss. Typically I have to row twice a day to get it all in--5:45 AM and 7:30 PM.

Keep up the good work!!

Susan

Yeah, I'm in for the folly.

If I do at least a 5K a day, I'll cross the million meter mark before month end!

I mix up the training though.
